Just Be Friends: An AoKuro Tribute

Disclaimer: I own nothing! Not the song, the picture, or the characters!

A/N: I saw this picture on Pinterest, and I immediately thought of the Vocaloid song, "Just Be Friends." If you guys haven't heard the song, I strongly suggest you listen to it. It's a wonderful piece. I prefer the Nico Nico Chorus version myself, but you can probably find the original artist online. The story might make more sense if you are familiar with the song, but it's not necessary. Anyways, to whoever made this amazing piece of art, this story is for you! Please read and review!

P.S. This is my first Kuroko fanfic, so please go easy on me! By the way, the fragmented style and grammar errors are on purpose.

Yesterday, you didn't return my fist bump. And everything became crystal clear.

The perfect picture has cracked. The dream has ended. We can't cling onto this fantasy any longer.

When did it begin? Before I even realized it, you had drifted further and further away from me. I am afraid that I can never catch up to you now.

I'm sorry.

I tried to save what we had. I tried to hold the fragments of our relationship together. But the small crack became a fissure and that fissure expanded into a ravine.

I'm not strong enough.

I should have known that it was inevitable. We were never going to last. You were a prodigy. I couldn't even pass for average. But your radiance blinded me from the truth.

Everything has fallen apart. Shattered fragments on the cold wet ground.

It made me happy. The way we used to play. Together, always together. How you caught all of my passes. How you understood all of my thoughts. Better than anyone else.

My dear light, you gave me a reason to exist. With you, I became useful. Worthy. Needed. But no more.

How did it reach this point? Once upon a time, we were inseparable. An unstoppable team. The Teiko ace and his phantom sixth man. But nothing lasts forever.

You understand, do you not? A shadow cannot exist without its light.

Before you came into my life, no one noticed me—a ghost of a boy drifting through the crowd. You changed me. You became my light. As you grew stronger, I did too. But when the light became too bright, there was no room left for the shadow. No room left for me.

It's over between us. Then again, it has been for a while.

How long has it been since I've seen it? Your smile. The childish grin that brightened up the whole court. My only wish was to bring that smile back to your face. To bring back your love for basketball. To bring back your love for me.

There is only one thing that we can do.

Just be friends.

I love you.

Sayonara, Aomine-kun.

The piece of paper fluttered to the tiled floor as Aomine Daiki stared at his partner's prone form. So calm, so still—even in death. It was almost as if he were sleeping.

Ironically, a single shard of glass was all that it took to rip the ace's world apart. Powder blue eyes, once so full of life and determination, were now completely empty. Just like Aomine. A hand tenderly closed the tealhead's eyelids shut.

"Damn it, Tetsu."
