Just a short one-shot I thought up post "Genetic Disorder"- in response to how defensive Greg seemed to be about the apparent affair.

Hope you all like it.

A Beautiful Contradiction

Vegas traffic ran like honey trickling through the streets at a pace that could frustrate even the most patient people. Greg Sanders tapped his steering wheel with the pent up energy he had from the last cup of coffee he'd drunk before leaving the lab. He just wanted to get home. He just wanted to see her.

All the talk of affairs that day had put into question everything he had thought he knew. Greg thought about the woman waiting at home for him and the wedding ring she wore on a thin gold chain around her neck. He cracked the window taking a deep breath of polluted air and thought of everything that ring stood for; loyalty, trust and love.

But here they were disregarding all of those things.

Their affair had started with the same cocktail mix as every other; loneliness, sexual frustration and genuinely caring for each other. They had found their eyes meeting across the break room table a few too many times and their touches lingering just too long. The longer they kept it going the realer it became.

It had become less like an affair and more like a normal relationship.

They would steal kisses in the lab when no one was looking, eat breakfast together in bed and spent the spare time they had in each other's company in the most honest way they could. Greg had given her the key to his apartment and on her days off in the middle of the week he would come home to find her there as if there was no other place for her to be.

He finally made it on to the road of his apartment picking up the pace, he drove with a sense of urgency that no one else would understand. He needed to see her.

Greg opened the door to his apartment to find her laid on the sofa reading, a sudden sense of warmth filled his body, she was wearing one of his shirts, her hair pinned up out of the way, reading his favourite book. Seeing her there like that made every single doubt leave his mind, when he saw her he realised that he didn't feel guilty. The only thing he felt was the deep, unforgiving love that overwhelmed him whenever she was in his presence. Nothing but pure, unadulterated love. She titled her head so that her intense coffee coloured eyes were on him, her infamous half smile tugged at her lips as she pulled herself up.

"Honey, you're home." she joked walking towards him, the gentle sway of her hips as she manoeuvred past his furniture mesmerising him.

"I must say..." she said slowly smoothing down the front of his suit jacket. "...you look rather handsome in that suit..."

"I love you Sara." The words appeared unexpectedly.

"I love you too." She replied, her expression softening. She planted a gentle kiss on his lips and pulled away.

They looked each other in the eye knowing that what they had was so very real.

The End
