It was a quiet night in Locust Grove, Oklahoma and everyone was enjoying the relaxing effect that the darkness had over them. One couple was watching their two year old daughter sleep, making sure that she would be okay on her own. When they were sure that she was fine, they went to bed themselves. Everything about that night would be the most haunting memory to the little girl in her crib just down the hall. Luckily, she was too young to remember the sound of her parents screams echoing into her room or the strange man that ran in and grabbed her out of her crib and took her far away from her home. The only memory she came to have was being in an orphanage in London, England. She watched as all the other kids played and she stayed in her thoughts.

She was five years old but she was turning six in a week and she was the quietest kid in the orphanage. She got lots of curious stares from the other children and the other adopting couples but she was used to it. On the morning of her sixth birthday, a family came into the orphanage. They had a young boy with them and while they talked to the woman about the children up for adoption, he looked around the room and spotted the young girl. She was sitting in a corner of the room and she was playing with a necklace around her neck. The young boy walked over to her and sat down on the floor across from her.

"Hi. I'm Tom." the young boy said, watching the girl in front of him with a curious expression.

"Tom, sweetie. Let's go." a woman said, walking towards Tom.

The woman took Tom's hand and started walking to the front door and were talking to the woman when some kids came over and started making fun of the young girl that was still in her corner and had continued playing with her necklace.

"She's never gonna get adopted. What family would want a kid who's so weird? I mean, she never talks and she stays in her corner all the time." one kid spoke, saying it loud enough that she could hear.

"I heard her parent's were brutally mur..." another kid started before the owner of the orphanage came in and hushed them.

"You two know better than to say such cruel things. Now run off and get cleaned up." she spoke to them, pushing them in the direction of the rooms.

The couple and the young boy that were just about to leave had walked back in upon hearing the things that the other children were saying.

"What happened to her?" the older gentleman asked.

"Let's go to my office to talk. She's been having a rough time and I don't want her to have to hear all this."

They walked to her office while Tom walked back over and sat down across from the young girl again. She glanced up at him for the first time and he saw the tears forming in her eyes.

"Why are you so nice to me?" she asked, just as Tom's parent's walked back out of the office.

"Victoria, would you like to meet your new parents?" the woman who owned the orphanage asked, a smile on her face.

"You mean...?" Victoria started, whipping her eyes.

"Yes sweetie. You have a family."
