Before reading, I, the author would like to take a moment of your time to explain a few things. This fanfic was built around the actual events that occurred throughout the Harry Potter franchise. It was written to make Drarry canon, as the tittle suggests. I wrote this so that the scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 where Harry confronts Draco in the Room of Requirement has meaning. I regret to inform you, the reader, that this is my very first fanfic that was not left as just an idea. I make a few references to Harry Potter-irrelevant topics. Said topics include: Portal 2, Minotaurs, The United States of America's Marines, Erin Brockovich (2000), Regina Spektor and The Island (2005).

I missed Pottermore to write this.

Chapter I – Draco's First Day

"Slytherin!" the Sorting Hat announced. The word seemed to echo throughout the hall. So many thoughts ran through his mind as he slowly made his way toward the long table filled with proud and seemingly care-free Slytherins. Ronald Weasley had just been sorted into Gryffindor. Potter was sitting with him for the entire train ride. What if he was sorted there, too? Draco worried. He had to remain calm; he didn't want anyone thinking he was weak, let alone affected. "Harry Potter," McGonagall called. Draco could feel his entire body get cold. A sweat found its way on his arms and neck as his heart beat faster and faster. He moved his toes back and forth within what little room remained in his shoes—anything to keep someone from noticing how nervous he was. Maybe it was okay, Harry Potter was a big deal, so perhaps others were just as anxious. Everyone knew that Harry coming to Hogwarts would be the talk of the year.

Draco began regretting the whole I'm so cool, look at me facade he had put on earlier. Maybe his plan wasn't so well thought out as he planned. "Not Slytherin, huh?" The Sorting Hat repeated Harry. It's all my fault. Damn it. Damn it! Now we will never get to talk to each other. He's just going to walk right pass me every day forever. Now Draco really regretted what he'd said to Harry earlier. Draco just stared at the table awaiting the final result. He knew, without a doubt, Harry Potter was not going to be a Slytherin, and that was that. "Gryffindor!" the halls filled with cheering and clapping. Everyone seemed so glad that Harry James Potter was now a Gryffindor. Even the Hufflepuffs were glad. As Dumbledore began the feast, everyone immediately began eating. Everyone except Draco. Every few moments he got, Draco quickly glanced at Harry. If he saw him look back, Draco would always pretend to be looking for something else to eat. After a while, Draco just didn't care. He examined the way Harry would fix his hair with the back of his hand, so he wouldn't get his face dirty. The way he would squinch his nose if his glasses fell uncomfortable low. Draco even realized that one of Harry's ears was slightly larger than the next. He soon realized that he was wasting his time. My chances at getting with him are as likely as winning a game of Gobstones, he thought. Just then, two boys, with a weight variance slightly above the norm, blocked Draco's view.

"Hi, I'm Crabbe, and I'm Go—"

"Shut up!" Draco interrupted "Why would I be interested in either of you, let alone your daft names?"

"Sorry, we just thought—" Crab tried to continue before Draco left the table.

He managed to leave the hall without any professors noticing. He then walked around Hogwarts, searching for anything to get his mind off of things. He tried to make out a few painting and poems he found, but was unable to see them clearly because it was so dark. After eleven minutes and thirty-five seconds, Draco had already mapped out the shortest distance from Slytherin's common room to Gryffindor's in his mind. Fearing getting caught, he began returning to the hall where everyone was eating. As he walked quickly, the back of his newly-bestowed wizard's hat got snagged on a necklace his mother gave him. The necklace was relatively small and light-weighted. It was a small pendant of a bird in its nest, feeding its young. Under the nest, engraved in Adobe Garamond Pro, read Draco, in capital letters. He worked on untangling his hat and necklace while walking back. When he returned, the tables were gone, and all the first years were sitting in a large circle.

"Where have you been?" Snape asked, staring right into Draco's eyes.

"I…uh. I just went to the w-washroom." Draco quivered.

Everyone quietly laughed at him. Draco turned his head to see that Harry and Ron were especially trying to keep their laughing to a minimum, as their faces cracked.

"Sit down," Snape ordered in a dreadfully slow voice.

Just then, McGonagall interrupted Snape and insisted,

"These activities are supposed to make students feel welcomed. Not ostracized from the group!" She looked at Draco with sympathy, "Find yourself a seat, boy. Quickly, now!"

Slowly walking toward the group of eyes staring right through him, he wondered where to sit. It was only appropriate to sit among the other Slytherins. However, if he were to sit close, of even next to, Harry, people would suspect something. Draco found a seat directly opposite of Harry. Since the majority of the first years lacked basic geometrical knowledge, especially the Hufflepuffs, the only clear view of Harry was in between Crabbe and Goyle. It didn't really concern Draco that he was holding up the activity, whatever it may be, but he slowly wedged himself between the two. He did it in such a way that was rude, but at the same time stern, as if he wanted to apologize, but didn't really care if he was forgiven or not.

"Hi, I'm Goyle. Gregory Goyle.", the tubby boy whispered to Draco. Crabbe was still upset at how Draco treated them, but remained polite nonetheless.

"Malfoy. Draco Malfoy" He responded under his breath. He held out his hand, and it was squeezed tightly by Goyle's warm and slightly greasy hand. Draco tried not to twist his face as he was repulsed by it. He glanced over at Harry and saw how he and his new friends were already laughing like they'd known each other for years. Harry noticed Draco staring in the corner of his eyes, and quickly turned to Draco. Draco briefly opened his eyes largely in surprise, and turned his head down in embarrassment. He blushed and felt unusually vulnerable as he looked to see if anyone had noticed.

"Attention! Your attention please," McGonagall began, as the room quickly turned silent. "Now I expect you may recognize a few faces, here today at Hogwarts,"

The silence broke and many students winked and waved to each other, as a slight chatter broke out.

"But many of you may not" she spoke a little more loud to re-introduce the silence she enjoyed ever so much. "Now to get everyone a little more acquainted, we're going to play a little game. When I say 'go', I want each of you to partner up with the person who is directly opposite you."

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Draco thought. This is too good to be true!

"After you've found your partner," she continued, "link arms and run to the east end of the hall." She painted to the wall with her nose, "The first ten to the wall shall receive ten points. Ready? Three…two…one… Go!"

Draco, as well as the rest of the students, quickly got out of their seats and scrambled all over the room. Draco looked for Harry, but could barely see him over the hundreds of students running around. There was no use screaming as there was enough noise to mute out a herd of Diricawl. He began to worry, as he was unable to find Harry. A few students had already begun running to the east wall. In a fraction of a second as students passed by, Draco saw Harry linking arms with Ron. As he saw this, several students then obstructed the sight again. Draco spun around in circles looking for a partner. Everyone seemed to have already done so. He felt an anxiety tinged with anger build within. How could he have done this! Draco though. Draco turned around, only to notice that Crabbe and Goyle had already partnered up with each other and were running (with what little stamina they had). Soon after, everyone's backs were pressed against the smooth, beige wall. Draco Malfoy was there, standing alone, in the middle of the hall. A wave of laughter filled the hall as students pointed. Draco had never been so embarrassed.

"SHUT UP! ALL OF YOU!" He screamed. No one seemed to respond as they began laughing louder. He looked at McGonagall as she was grinning, while turning to other teachers. Even Snape chiseled off a smile. Draco looked around, his face blood red. He pushed through a few professors as he ran out the hall. He ran so fast, his cloak came partially undone and his hat fell off, taking with it, his silver necklace. Hermione Granger managed to get everyone to settle down, as she had her daily skin-care regimen to attend to, and refused to have her schedule interrupted by others' laughter. Harry felt terrible as Draco ran out. He knew he was supposed to partner up with Draco, but preferred strengthening his relationship with other Gryffindors first. Ron nudged him and the two continued to laugh. The activities continued as the doors slammed closed, echoing throughout the room.

Draco held back his tears for as long as he could. Luckily, none of the older students heard him, as classes began tomorrow and they were mostly asleep. He found a relatively empty hallway and curled up in a little ball of grief and let it all out. He thought Hogwarts was going to be a new start. He thought Hogwarts would be nothing like Muggle grade school. As he closed his eyes and pictured everyone laughing and pointing, he remembered when a group of boys locked him in the girls' washroom. The words haunted him; this is where a scrawny insignificant fag like you belongs! Draco's legs began to go numb, as he hugged his knees so tightly. He cried, until finally, he fell asleep on the cold and slightly dusty floor.

"Hey? Are you awake?" a voice slowly got louder in Draco's ear. Draco slowly lifted his head.

"I'm sorry for what happened earlier." Draco opened his eyes, and tried to make out the blurred figure. Draco felt like he recognized the voice, and it was nearly a minute before he could see that it had brown hair and light eyes.

"Come on, we have to go to bed. It's like four in the morning!" Draco rubbed his eyes, and was finally able to see clearly.

"What are YOU doing here?" He said while pushing Goyle away.

"Snape sent for me to look for you. You missed out on a lot of fun!" he said.

"You…are so annoying," Draco complained.

"…"

"Move! I have to get to bed before you get us both in trouble!" Draco stood up, and walked down the hall. The enchanted hanging oil lamps illuminated as the walked past them.

"Er… Draco?" Goyle asked.

"WHAT?"

"Common Room's the other way. Thought you'd like to know."

"I KNEW that, I just don't want to walk with the likes of you!"

Draco had no idea where he was going. He wandered around until he found a corridor with familiar paintings. Isn't this near the Gryffindor Common Room? he thought. He slowed down his pace, in the slightest hope of passing, and possibly making eye contact with, Harry. But he wasn't there. Draco went to the washroom to wash his face. As he reached for a towel, he heard footsteps enter the washroom. Draco dried his face in looked in the mirror. He didn't even bother to turn around, as he knew there was no way to possibly ruin his day before the sunrise.

"You dropped this earlier," a comforting voice said. Draco immediately turned around.

"Harry?" Draco asked. He was so surprised his heart seemed to skip a bit, as his breathes began grew shoter and quicker.

"I want to apologize for earlier. I knew I was supposed to partner up with you," Harry said while handing Draco the once perfectly pressed hat, "I did my best to dry it after the other guys tried flushing it down the toilet." Harry's face began to pull off a smile.

"Why have you come here?" Draco asked in a soft voice. He was staring at Harry's shoes, trying not to look at him in the eyes. He didn't want anyone knowing he was crying.

"Isn't it obvious?"

"…"

"I had to pee." Harry giggled

"I suppose that makes sense." Draco smirked back.

"There's also this. I found it just outside the doors before you…well…you know…" Harry held out his hand with the silver necklace.

"Thank you!" Draco said enthusiastically. "If my mother found out I'd lost it, she'd kill me!"

"It really is a nice necklace, you know," Harry began to make conversation.

"It was a present from her. She gave it to me before I left for Hogwarts" Draco replied, trying not to sound too involved in the conversation.

"Draco," Harry started.

"Yes?" Draco replied, eager to hear what Harry said next.

"It means dragon, doesn't it?"

"Though it hardly fits," Draco laughed off.

"You know, my friend's brother studies dragons in Romania" Harry said. "He showed me one. He said he had to smuggle it into Hogwarts," Harry began walking toward Draco. "Dragons can be frightening at first… but once you get to know them they can be quite…"

Draco's heart began beating faster. With Harry's hand still out, Draco reached for the necklace.

"Nice," Harry said. Draco's hand rested weightlessly in Harry's. Draco moved closer to Harry. There was a very small gap between them.

"Thanks," Draco said quietly, trying not to disturb the silence. He leaned into Harry, moving his hand. He slowly positioned his fingers between Harry's. Their lips slowly closed in on each other's. Draco relaxed his eyes as he tried not to move in too close. Harry could notice a small pimple coming just below Draco's hairline. Draco tried to ease his breaths; all though it seemed impossible. He paused for a moment, trying to think if what was really happening was really happening. Could it all be a dream? Could he still be sleeping in a dark hallway? Harry leaned in closer, slowly closing his eyes. Before his eyes were fully closed, Draco could see a shadow approaching the washroom. Draco pushed Harry away and Harry looked at Draco from a distance, and then disappeared in the dark corridors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Draco brushed his hand down his face. It was all a dream, or rather, a fleeting one.

"Good grief, man. I thought you would have been in bed by now. You know you can get in trouble if you're caught?" Crabbe said, reaching for a pack of smokes in his pocket.

"I could say the same for you. What are you doing here?" Draco asked.

"Isn't it obvious?" Crabbe said while pulling out his lighter with a cigarette in his mouth. "Want one?"

"No, thanks, I don't smoke. Quite a nasty habit, really."

"Well, that's wonderful. At least now I know you're not a total prude as I thought you were earlier." Crabbe said sarcastically. "So what are you doing here?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Draco began. "I had to pee."

"Thanks for sharing." Crabbe said, "Were you with that Potter boy?" he asked while puffing clouds of smoke.

"Me? Pshh. I think he's a freak, if you ask me." Draco said. He was caught between feeling overwhelmed with happiness and, at the same time, dismay. At least he knew Potter cared for him. And he was reassured they played for the same team. Or at least, he was convinced so. He just couldn't imagine what would have happened had Crabbe seen the two that close.

"He is a freak. I can only imagine what trouble he's going to cause."Crabbe said between puffs of smoke. Draco was barely paying attention. I have to talk to him tomorrow—oh shoot! I have to wake up in…three hours and sixteen minutes. I hope, I hope so badly, that we have at least one class together. What it'd give for phys ed. I might even enjoy it if he were in my class.

"So what do you think?" Crabbe said, before smothering the cigarette butt under his worn out shoes.

"What?" Draco said, "I have to go." Draco skipped off, grinning—glowing—he scurried up the stairs into Slytherin's Common Room. He noticed all his things were all ready unpacked, even the photos of him and best friend before leaving for Hogwarts. His best friend had long, dark brown hair. The photo was of her and Draco at a carnival, during the night. A Ferris wheel decorated with at least a thousand lights was behind them. She had a bunch of cotton candy in her hand and pressed it to Draco's mouth. He looked at her and they both laughed. This played over and over. Draco picked it up as he got into bed. He looked at it and smiled before finally falling asleep. Maybe Hogwarts won't be so bad. Maybe it was just the beginning of new and brighter memories.
