An eerie fog glazed the starry sky. Only a few stars protruded from the hazy blanket. Breaths of coldness mingled in the air as the sound of soft breathing resonated through the silent night. A blonde beauty sat with her commanding officer, her head on his lap and his hand laced through her hair. They stayed in this position for a long time, neither trying to make conversation. The comfortable silence was embraced, it was a sort of relief from the chaos that had ensued their lives for so long.
They knew it was almost over.
The fighting, the lying, the hatred, the greed.
Riza observed the bright celestials of the twilight. She closed her eyes, imagining a world of difference. A world where unlike Amestris, there is no central government. A world where similar to the bright stars in the sky, everyone has the same potential. A world where alchemy simply does not exist.
But in a world with no alchemy...
She opened her honey eyes, peering up at the dark sky once more. Then she observed the man she laid on. She observed everything, his mussed dark hair, his closed eyes, broad nose, soft lips, and pulsing neck. His attire, which sported only an ivory button down shirt and standard pair of navy blue pants. His broad shoulders, sturdy torso, callused hands, and countless scars. His breathing was light and soothing. She could easily tell he was deep into a meditative state. His face reflected a feeling of serenity. The peace of the simple moments they shared together that night was enough for them. Her lips moved up slightly in a wistful smile, her mind consumed with finality.
In a world with no alchemy, what purpose would there be in her existence?
