He couldn't believe that she was like this with him. He didn't think after the fight they had that she would be in his arms let alone in his bed. He was just glad that his mother and his daughter weren't here to witness this; he knew that they would be speculated upon otherwise. He couldn't fault them though if they were here doing that because if it were him, he'd have done the same thing.
"You know," Kate Beckett replied. "You're thinking just a bit too loud."
"I can't just turn that off," Rick Castle told her.
Kate laid on top of him looking at him. "It woke me," she told him.
Rick lifted her chin with his hand. "I'm not the only one with thoughts in my head," he told her. "Why don't you tell me what drove you here last night?"
Kate laid her head down on his chest. "I turned in my badge and weapon and resigned from the force," she told him.
Rick didn't say anything at first because he was just too shocked that she would do such a thing. "But why, Kate?"
"If I can't investigate who shot me, how can I work?" she asked him and then looked back up at him. "You told me to leave alone, and I should have listened to you. I didn't consider you until I was hanging off a roof."
Rick stayed quiet. He knew some of the details but not all. He was still somewhat in the loop at the 12th precinct. He knew about Kate's near brush with death.
"You're not going to tell me I told you so?" Kate asked.
Rick shook his head. "I wouldn't do something that childish," he said.
Kate laughed. "God, I needed that," she said. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Rick said.
Just then, Kate's stomach growled. She groaned. "I'm sorry," she said. "I didn't eat anything since yesterday afternoon."
"I was thinking pancakes," Rick told her.
"I can do pancakes," she said and scooted off of him so he could get up.
Rick got up off the bed and pulled on a pair of jeans.
"Rick, wait," Kate replied just as he was about to leave the room. She knew she rarely used his first name, but for this, for him, and for her, this was important. "The reason why I came here was because before I came here, I was at the swings and it was raining. I just wanted to feel sorry for myself, but I couldn't because I knew, in my heart, you would be waiting for me." She took the shirt that he was wearing last night, put it on, and started doing the buttons. "It was thrilling for me to feel that, and I couldn't stop myself and not come here. I had to because you are the one I want." She walked over to him. "I love you, too."
"You took your sweet time," Rick said and then did the one thing she hoped he would do, he kissed her.
