Under Todd's Blade

Chapter One

"Mrs. Lovett, ma'am, do you s'pose I could take a stroll through town a'fore the shoppe opens up tonight?" Toby asked, the child in him showing through that stone cold, abused face of his.

Mrs. Lovett smiled, her painted lips pulling back, showing those stained teeth of hers.

"O'course, son. Take your time. Just r'member, nowhere near that Ol' Judge Turpin's place. Mr. T and he ain't so close now'a'days," the woman replied, running her fingers through his already mussed brunette hair.

Toby rose up on his tip-toes and placed a quick kiss on her cheek before heading out for his walk.

Mrs. Lovett watched as the boy left her shoppe before heading out herself, if only upstairs to check up on Mr. Todd.

"Mr. Todd? Oh, Mr. Todd? Where are you, love?" Mrs. Lovett asked, her voice light and airy as ever as she pushed back the old, dingy door to Todd's barber shoppe above her meat pie emporium.

"Just inside, my love," replied Mr. Todd as he sat atop the trunk he'd stuffed Senior Perelli's body in not long ago.

"Evening, Mr. T," Mrs. Lovett beamed, genuine love in her eyes.

"Mrs. Lovett, would you care to dance?" Todd asked, placing the blade he'd been examining on the trunk next to him.

"Don't s'pose I've got sum'thin' better to do, now do I?"

Mr. Todd stood from his trunk and strode toward the woman in a dark gown with obscenely curly hair.

He took her delicate hand in his and pulled her close, taking a small step forward to begin their musicless dancing.

Despite their immoral lifestyles, both quite enjoyed flitting around together, tuning out the world as the pair they always could have been.

All Todd wanted was for his daughter to be back in his life. No longer could he hold the woman he loved, but given Joanna's still breathing state, he wouldn't rest until she was home and if taking Turpin out was the only way, then so be it.

"So be it," mumbled Todd, barely audible, despite the silence.

"Mr. Todd? Lost your marbles finally, have you?" Mrs. Lovett questioned, dropping her hands, stepping back from Todd.

"I will have Turpin underneath my blade. That's a promise, Mrs. Lovett. Now, open up the shoppe, we've got customers to serve," Sweeney ordered, manically.

The double meaning was not lost on Mrs. Lovett, for she scurried out as quick as possible, in hopes she wouldn't be the next caught under Todd's blade.

Hey, everyone. So, I love Sweeney Todd and I just watched it, and so yeah. I decided why not? :P
