A/N: Hi reader thanks for reading my fanfic. This is my first one so please try not to be to judgmental but constructive criticism is appreciated. I love Avatar the last airbender and Zutara is my biggest ship and I've had the idea for this fic for a while. Please enjoy! And please excuse any grammar errors!

Chapter 1:

Katara watched Zuko and Aang firebend in the courtyard. She studied them individually for a moment as her mind began to drift in a place she never imagined it would. Sure, she loved Aang but not the way he wanted her to. She felt very motherly towards him she had somewhat the same feelings she had for Sokka. But then she saw Zuko.

Zuko was different, she felt different for him. Ever since he helped her confront Yon Rha, she saw him in a new light. He wasn't just the jerk who had chased them all over the world, or the bastard that betrayed her in the catacombs beneath Ba Sing Se. He is softer, and kinder. One night when they were flying to Whale Tail Island he shared with her his childhood, as she shared hers with him.

She not only felt compassion for him, but empathy as well. She knew far too well what it was like to lose your mother, but he lost everything. She could never imagine her father hating her, or being forced into exile for doing the right thing. So the moment when she hugged him, she not only hugged him for him regaining her trust, but for him to feel love again because in the end that was all he ever wanted. She had thought that when she hugged him, he would stand awkwardly. But he embraced her as she embraced him. It was different than hugging Aang. When she hugged Aang it was sweet and loving. When she hugged Zuko it was warm and welcoming and made her smile for the rest of the day.

Which brought her back to just staring at the two boys from a distance, pondering over her thoughts. She liked Zuko. She just felt guilty admitting it. Aang was supposed to fight the merciless Fire Lord in a couple of few weeks. If she did this to him it would completely crush him. And that was the last thing he needed right now. Just then Sokka ran in rambling on about some play about them.

A/N: Hi again. If you stayed reading thank you so much! I know this chapter was short and a little boring but I do think I'm just going to write my own Zutara ending since it's simple and not to intricate since it is my first fic. Please review and I promise I will add more action and a little fluff.
