Chapter 1: Back to the Start

I couldn't help it. I'm falling for her.

But she doesn't even notice me. You see, we were friends once. Scratch that last. We were "best friends" once. But it all changed in high school.

She became one of those bitchy cheerleaders.

And I'm one of the losers. We're in two different worlds… until one day….

Zach's POV

It was a very hot day. I was reading "Maximum Ride" by James Patterson while eating my lunch.

Then someone sits in front of me. "I need your help." the voice said to me My defenses hit the ground when I looked up to see who it was.

There she was sitting in front of me asking my help. I wanted to say no, but no words came out.

"I need you to film myself." she said quietly while looking everywhere like someone might see or hear her.

I frowned and said, "why me? You have lots of "friends" why not ask them? They have a video cam don't they?"

Then I saw it. Fear, hurt, sadness and doubt that mirrored in her eyes. Then it changed to anger.

"Fine! If you don't want to I'll find another film geek!" she said angrily but enough for the two of us to hear then turned around to leave.

"Wait!" , I said she turned around to look at me. "I'll do it" I said nervously. She released a breath that I didn't notice she was holding.

We talked where to meet and what time we would meet.

She stood up to leave. She started to walk a way while I was still getting my thoughts gathered. Still shocked by what had just happened.

Then I heard it. "Thanks Zach." She said with a small smile then turned around to leave.

I couldn't breath. I couldn't move. It felt like I was floating.

I pinched myself a couple of times to see if it was just a dream. Then it dawned on me that it was not. I noticed that I have some tiny sweat in my forehead and realized how nervous I was when she came up to me. I released a long deep breath and stood up to leave.

'This day is not so bad at all' I said to myself. I unlocked my bike and pedaled to nowhere exactly while wearing a smile that matches joker's.
