"Monster."

It wasn't like this was the first time. No. These sort of things happened often, maybe more regularly then one would desire, you just have to brush it off and get on with your life- that was his philosophy. Only, this time it was different. Much different. Yet, it was so strikingly similar to everything else. Same word, same person, same place. Maybe it was him, or maybe it was her but something was different. Sure, they had grown, it had been almost three years since they had last seen each other, but it wasn't that. That wasn't causing this sweet sensation, this indescribable feeling. It could've of been the way her carmine locks blew gently in the soft autumn breeze or maybe it was the small hint of a sad smile hidden underneath her delicate fingertips. Whatever it was, it was making his heart beat faster and his face feel hotter.

"I know." He replied, holding her tighter as he felt wet tears stain his orange uniform. Her hand held his jacket close, refusing to let go. She wouldn't let him go, not again, not without her.

"Then why?" Her whisper was muffled through the cheap tangerine cotton as she bashed his torso lightly with her fists. His grip only got tighter as he snuggled into her shoulder; he really was a lot taller after all this time.

"I had to." He pulled away from the embrace, turning away from the young girl and facing towards the pale glow of the vermilion sunset. "I made a promise."

"Naruto, I.." Sakura began, brushing away the loose strands of hair sticking to her damp cheeks. She wrapped her arms around his muscular form once again and leaned against his back, pulling him as close as their clothing would allow. The warm rays of sunlight illuminated their surroundings, making everything seem so peaceful and serene. Shadows of trees seemed to dance in the gusts of wind, compelling the mahogany autumn leaves to fall from the cerulean coloured twilight sky.

Naruto shifted slightly. He peered at her over his shoulder, smiling slightly at the sight. When he was younger, he had just once wanted Sakura to notice him, worry about him instead of Sasuke. Now, his fantasies were reality and he was to dazed to even reply.

"I..." She continued, tears threatening to over flow from her glittering jade eyes. Grabbing Naruto's arm, she turned him around to face her. Raising herself up on her tip toes, she slowly closed her eyes and softly placed her lips on his. After a few seconds, she opened her emerald orbs only to be met by his bewildered sapphire ones. Smiling warmly, she quickly turned on her heels, stuck out her tongue and walked away. Touching his lips lightly, Naruto stared at the pink haired kunoichi narrowing form as she faded away in the distance. Grinning broadly, Naruto followed her. Maybe training with Jiraiya wasn't all that bad if that was what he got at the end of it!

"Sakura-chan, wait up!" He cried, chasing her into the distance. Yeah, he had been called Monster a lot as a child. Whoever said "Sticks and stones may break my bones might break my bones but words will never hurt me" had obviously not been crippled by harsh tones as Naruto had. Only, the way Sakura's smile seemed to break through the gloomy haze, those words didn't seem to matter. Maybe some thing's are better left unsaid.

"Naruto, I...missed you."

Though, it's always nice when they are.
