Nothing Left
There was a storm that night, a fierce storm. It matched his determination after he was released from the hospital, that burning drive to get revenge.
But now he was sitting there thinking. Was it even worth it? No matter what he did, she'd still be dead. She'd still be nothing more than a beautiful memory in his head.
He took a long sip of the black liquid in his mug. Ah, coffee… the dark, seductive liquid that had forever captivated him.
'Enough of this,' he thought. He pulled out his jacket, and walked out the door. He started driving with no particular destination in mind. Somehow he found himself at Grossberg Law Offices. Where his life began… and ended.
He had walked in this building everyday six years ago, walking with a steaming mug of coffee and a cocky grin. Gone were the smile, and even the coffee. Now he only had a somber expression on his face.
Grossberg happened to walk in at that moment, looking at a file with a pained expression on his face. The man at the door cleared his throat, and Grossberg looked up. Thankfully that hideous mask and white hair had concealed his identity from Grossberg. For Grossberg clearly did not recognize him.
"Oh! A client," He gave a toothy smile. "I'm sorry m'boy! Usually there's a secretary here, but she was… detained…"
An awkward silence filled the air, so the man cleared his throat again and began to speak. "I'm not a client; I just came to pick up something… for a friend."
He saw Grossberg's face fall. He then fished out a ring with at least thirty keys. "Which office do you want to go in?"
"Ms. Mia Fey's office," He said, albeit painfully.
Grossberg's face went white. He started stammering, "Y-You do… r-r-realize, that attorney i-is-"
"No longer living, I know; I only want to check for something, and I'll leave"
"Well… alright," He still seemed reluctant, but he led the man up to the sixth floor and unlocked the door.
"I'll leave you to it" He started walking away complaining about how his butt cheeks were on fire.
He chuckled quietly, but stopped when he walked inside. The room was dark, but he could still see everything.
He remembered every event that took place in that office, as if it were only yesterday. He went over to the desk, and opened each drawer. They were all empty except the bottom right one. He closed his hand around an object and pulled it out.
It was a small picture, of him and… her… his kitten. She was leaning her head on his chest, while he was kissing her cheek. That was a few weeks after they had started dating.
He set the picture down. The sadness that engulfed him was too much too bear. Yet the tears didn't come. It was more of a cold feeling. An almost numb feeling. Almost.
He slammed his fist into the wall, cursing the piece of garbage that took her away from him. Why couldn't he have killed him? She would have moved on. She had family and friends… including that idiot, Trite.
He had nothing left. He had only simple acquaintances with a few people. The deepest feeling he felt for any living person, was hatred towards that lawyer. Or at least, he called himself that. That half-brained moran could have saved her, but he failed.
Was revenge even worth living for though? What about when it was over, what then?
"Mia… I know you probably aren't listening, but…. I… I love you, and I'm so sorry I couldn't save you."
Even when that demon woman poisoned him, and legally killed him, he was still alive. The day Mia Fey died was the day Diego Armando died.
Without Mia he had nothing. Without her love he was cold. Without her there he was… alone.
