I could see Harry was excited. He was crawling around the tree in circles, time after time, only stopping occasionally to study the baubles hanging from the Christmas tree. I looked up, out the window at the dark dismal looking sky. Just then I noticed a few white flakes drifting past. Snow! The first snow of winter; and Harry's first snow ever.
I scooped Harry up into my arms and walked out to the foyer. It took me a few minutes of digging through the hall closet but I finally found hats, coats, and boots for both Harry and I. I got us bundled up as quickly as I could and opened the door for Harry to crawl out onto the porch, leading the way into the the winter wonderland. He look hesitantly out at the growing mounds of white. It was snowing hard and fast and already a blanket of white was forming over everything. Harry pulled himself up to sitting and stuck a couple fingers in his mouth. I picked him up again and stepped off the porch. He held his hand out to catch a few flakes. Right away he caught several. He sat there, staring at the flakes on his hand for a good few minutes with a look of astonishment written across his face. I set him down and he looked around, analyzing his situation. Suddenly he let out a squeal of joy followed by a stream of baby giggles, making me laugh. I flopped down into the building snow and moved my arms and legs back and forth, creating a snow angel.
I heard the gate squeak and looked up. It was James. He walked forward and scooped Harry up, tossing him into the air only to catch him and place him safely back onto the earth. He looked down at me and grinned.
"Lily I do believe you are an angel," he said, and flopped down in the snow next to me, placing harry on his stomach. I just smiled and went back to my snow angel. James scooted over closer to me and began on a snow angel of his own; making it so the wing of his angel touched mine. Our angels appeared to be holding hands. I stopped moving and gazed above me. Taking in the icicles hanging from the edge of the roof and the branches of the trees, and the general whiteness of everything. It was almost just like heaven.
