Angel

She knew she should care that her brother left. She knew that Fang was her parent and her brother. But she didn't care. Nothing mattered except that she was one step closer to leading the flock, and that Max was a shell of herself.

Max wouldn't admit it, of course. But Angel knew. Angel always knew.

She wasn't evil, she knew that. She knew that everything she was doing, all of the things she had put in Fang's head were necessary. Her Voice had told her so.

And yet, she couldn't shake the feeling that she had ruined her family.

Was it worth it to ruin them in order to save them?

Gazzy

He knew Fang the least. He loved Fang a lot, but Fang was always so quiet. Angel was his sister, Nudge was close to him in age, Iggy was his best friend, and Max was his leader and mom. Fang was always there, strong and silent.

He missed that. He missed the protection he felt from Fang. Max was strong, but she was only one person. Iggy was blind. The older three had fell apart after Fang left.

Gazzy hated that he would never become best friends with Fang.

Was it worth it to leave family in order to protect?

Nudge

She knew that Fang was a great brother. She knew that he would always listen to her, sitting in silence as she went on and on about the latest trends in fashion. Nudge knew that he was like her counselor, the person she could tell secrets to.

Angel was young and fast becoming an enemy. Max would listen, but she had so much to do. Gazzy was her younger brother, and he was as annoying as one. Iggy was always there, but he could only take so much.

Nudge hated that she had never listened, only talked.

Was it worth it to speak at all if you don't listen?

Iggy

He knew that Gazzy was his best friend, his partner. Yet no one was the same to him as Fang. Fang was the one he could go to about things the older three dealt with. Fang was the one who could help him sort things out about Ella and Nudge.

Nudge and Angel were girls. Gazzy was too young. Max, well, she was a leader. She was loving, but some things are just for the two of them.

Iggy hated that they hadn't had a chance to get closer.

Was it worth it to be alone in order to keep others safe?

Max

She knew that she was closer to no one else than Fang. She knew that he would always be there. She knew that Fang was her one rock, the one person she could depend on to hold things together if she needed a break.

Nudge, Gazzy, and Angel were young, and they didn't need to know her troubles. Iggy knew, but he was blind and humorous, and his job was to keep things light. It was Fang who she relied on the most. It was Fang who was the one that could break her. It was Fang who made her break inside.

Max hated that she had been abandoned.

Was it worth it to love if you just get hurt?

R&R? Should I write a sequel?
