It was a warm summer day in the summer of 1900. The city was bustling with people as usual, the Newsies shouting headlines like every other day. Except for one, tiny detail:

Racetrack was nowhere to be found.

Jack had first noticed this when he arrived at the circulation desk. Race was usually one of the first people there, but Jack didn't see him anywhere. At first, he didn't think much of it, but as the day progressed, he got more and more worried. It wasn't until around 12:00 in the after noon when he decided to go search for him.

"Hey, fellas, I'll be back in a while." He told his friends David and Blink. "I've gotta check on somethin'." The two boys waved goodbye to their leader and continued their conversation.

'Where could that lil' guy be?' He wondered as he walked down the street. Believe it or not, Race actually took his work very seriously. Jack was the person who taught Racetrack how to sell, and he caught on rather quickly. Before Jack knew it, Racetrack was improvising headlines like a pro.

He had never been more proud.

Suddenly, while walking past an alley, a glimmer caught his eye. Jack turned and saw Ractrack- or at least he assumed it was Racetrack, holding what appeared to be a sword of some sort, back up against the wall. You may be wondering why poor Racey was backed up against the wall. Well, I think I'll tell you; because an eight foot tall man was slowly advancing towards him, cracking his knuckles.

"HEY!" Jack yelled, before he could stop himself. The man turned, and Jack felt his heart leap into his throat.

The man had only one eye.

Racetrack's expression quickly changed from fear to shock. "J-Jack?" He exclaimed. "What are you-"

Before Racetrack could finish, the man- or, Cyclopse Jack supposed, knocked Race to the ground with one sweep of his hand. Race hid the ground hard, knocking his head of the concrete.

"HEY! NO ONE TREATS 'IM THAT WAY, MONSTER OR NOT!" Jack yelled. The beast raised his eyebrow and advanced towards the boy.

'Damn it, what have I gotten myself into now?" Jack thought to himself.
