The moon was but an elegant crescent against the backdrop of black velvet studded with diamond stars. Pale light pooled in an unearthly beam through an open window and upon a floor of stone hewn tiles. The gray stone harbored a silver glow from the warmth of moonlight spilling upon it. White silk curtains floated lazily in a gentle breeze, rippling into an incomprehensible pattern. The scent of roses, a garden of them and the soft melody of a harp reached the ears of the woman sitting cross legged in the beam of white light.

She was clad well, in black silk robes and barefooted. Soft blonde hair cut short to her ears, fine as a filament shone with a white tinge as the naked blade that lay across her lap. Her eyes were closed and face devoid of emotion in a tranquil state. The faint humming notes of the flute swirled around her, dancing and teasing softly until the woman opened her eyes. A tiny smile quirked her lips as she placed the sword aside to stand.

Michiru...

There was only silence as the tall blonde walked down the halls in the comfortable darkness of recently settled night. The doors and windows were all open as per usual to admit the gentle summer breeze. As the hall ended in a large pair of doors, both opened to the night and to a spacious garden harboring hundreds of luscious roses. Petals lay strewn across the stone path and several benches lay along the random paths through the maze like garden. The soil appeared black and the leaves of the bushes holding the crimson blossoms a gentle silver.

The source of the flute came from further in the garden, hidden by tall bushes and smirk came to her face. Another breeze swept through around her, rustling her silk robes quietly. She savored the sound and hurried on, smile growing with anticipation.

The path upon which she traveled curved inward, winding into the center of the maze as would the other paths to create a circular heart in the center of the garden as a hidden haven for those who seek solitude. The bushes curved around the heart of the garden to keep prying sight away for but a few more moments. Soon she stood at the entrance to the small haven, gazing upon another young woman in the dim moonlight.

Silver and gold glinted in the light held by the slender and beautiful hands of the maker of such music. Large eyes, framed by long, dark lashes gazed at the blonde and smile curved full lips slightly. She wore a long dress of blue silk, flowing freely in the breeze. It clung to her shapely figure and shoulder length, unrestrained hair framed a beautiful face of glowing skin and delicate features.

"Haruka, I had thought you were sleeping." the blonde shrugged and went to sit by the other, smiling.

"I guess I wasn't tired."

She rested the flute in her lap, turning her face to gaze at Haruka. "Why did you come out here?"

"To be with you, Michiru. Why else?" Their lips met, gentle, almost timid, then again with need and want. The blonde pulled away and stood, not looking at the blue clad woman.

"Haruka?..."

"Good night." She strode away out of the heart of the garden and from the heart of her love. The scent of roses still lingered in the breeze and she sighed quietly as she made her way back into the house. A hand touched her lips gently and her heart thudded from surprise and happiness as she once again sat in her former spot in the beam of moonlight.
