Mark looked out the plane window to look down at his new home city.
Seacrest County.
It was beautiful there, he'd heard. But he didn't care about the beauty of the city. He just cared about the distance it had from his old school.
The distance it had from... them.
They were horrible... they made his life a living hell.
He was only 14 when it started. When the harassment started... 12 whole years ago...
His clothes being stolen from his locker...
Getting beat up...
Getting mugged...
All of it...
Nothing could stop them from assailing him, whether it be words or punches. The thoughts made Mark angry, but he pushed them aside... For the meantime.
(LINE BREAK)
Mark entered his new home, suitcases in hand. It was an apartment on the 5th floor of the building. It was decently big, or at least big enough for a 26 year old. The apartment came fully furnished, and his belongings were shipped here beforehand. He laid down on the Queen size bed, leaving his suitcases in the living room. He decided to go to sleep as he was tired from the flight. Several hours later, the doorbell rang. Mark got up to answer and instead of a person, he saw a letter in his mailbox.
'Weird', Mark thought. 'Who would send me mail this early? I thought my address took weeks to change on paper.'
He took the letter in and shut the door. He turned on the TV to watch the news. Sitting down on the couch, Mark finally took a real good look at the letter.
On the front, it had a shield emblem and inside the shield was what appeared to be the rim of a 2010 Lamborghini Reventon. Yes, he was a car enthusiast, and as such, wasn't the most popular in his old school. Below the logo, it read the following:
Seacrest County Police Department
Mark was stunned. He just moved to the city. And he had no criminal record on him. Why would the local PD contact him via letter? 'I'm not a suspect, or a witness... or an informant...'
He opened the letter, and at that moment the news reporter said something that got his attention. He upped the volume. "... Yes, Jared, there's a new racer in town, and he goes by the name F8, or 'Fate'. His actual name is... What's that, Jared? Oh, OK. F8's real name is Anthony Jacobs. He is at large for illegal street racing in Seacrest County. Over the years, Seacrest County PD has been cracking down on racing using their rather... Unconventional means. But nonetheless, they get the job done. Unfortunately, Jacobs has slipped through the cracks and is still out there." then they showed a photo of Jacobs.
Mark felt the anger rise as he saw the photo of the ringleader of the little "gang" that never left him alone pop up. Mark was their scrapegoat, the way to climb the popularity ladder. Eventually, Mark calmed down and finally opened the letter and unfolded the lone paper in the envelope. He stood up and walked to his room. After reading the paper several times, he still couldn't believe it. This is exactly what he needed. This is a blessing to him. Happy yet still angry at Jacobs for what Jacobs had done to Mark, Mark slammed the paper down on his nightstand and went to the bathroom to prepare to go for sleep.
*camera pans from front right side of Mark to the paper lying on the nightstand* Tomorrow was going to be an interesting day.
The top of the paper read:
APPLICATION FOR POSITION AS INTERCEPTOR UNIT PATROLMAN AT SEACREST COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT
Job Description: Using ANY available force* to bring illegal street racers into custody. Position mentioned above consists of high-speed pursuits. Applicants who get said position will have health and life insurance paid for by the State of California.
There was also a small footnote at the bottom of the page, barely noticable but there.
*- 'Force' consists of bringing the suspect to a halt OR forcing the vehicle to stop with excessive damage.
See, Mark or his family (he didn't have any friends as no one wanted to associate with him in fear of being targeted) never knew this, but Mark really developed a grudge for Jacobs. And I'm not talking like "oh, let's beat the crap out of him and that's it" grudge. I'm talking more like "I want him to suffer when he dies and I wanna watch the pain in his eyes!" kind of grudge. Mark was never sent to therapy as his parents didn't want him anywhere near Jacobs after finding out and moved him here, to Seacrest.
But it seems his past has come to follow him...
Shit.
