What We Did
Bully
The first time Luffy sees Shanks the older child is saving him from a group of ruffians; the only thought that goes through the five year olds mind is how cool the red head looks.
Snack
Shanks doesn't quite know what to make of the little kindergartener that had taken to following him during Recess, he especially doesn't know what to do when the little tyke gives him a handmade card and a tin of cookies.
Crayon
When Ace notices that his little brother has begun to strictly color with red he decides that Luffy is in love, because only something as strong as love could break Luffy's ingrained habit to color with every color in the rainbow and more.
Lunch
A six year old Luffy makes sure to smile at Shanks whenever he sees his idol, and if he forgets about food completely when Shanks smiles back then he can't really be faulted; it finally gives his friends a chance to eat their food without fear though.
Shy
It isn't until Luffy is in second grade and Shanks in seventh that Luffy actually talks to Shanks again. Their conversation consists of only three words, an exuberant 'Hello Shanks!' and a distracted 'Hey.' in response.
Nap
When Brook, Luffy and Ace's babysitter, hears Luffy mumble a word other then meat the skinny teen instantly begins to write love sonnets inspired by the tot. For dreams reflect a person's deepest desire and greatest love; and somehow this 'Shanks' had beat out meat in Luffy's heart.
Homework
It is only because of Luffy's terrible grades that he and Shanks meet during Luffy's fourth year of schooling and Shanks' ninth. Luffy had never before hugged a teacher before that day, but when Miss Nico announced that Shanks would be his 'Big Brother' he jumped up and all but tackled the studious woman.
Friends
When Ben Beckman saw a short brunette following Shanks around on the playground with stars practically shining in his eyes he chuckled, because really, who would have thought that Shanks of all people would end up with a fan-boy?
Hide N' Seek
Zoro grumbled under his breath as he searched in vain for his monkey like best friend, Lufy had insisted that they play Hide N' Seek when Shanks asked them to join in the game and Zoro had somehow ended up being 'It'; so far he had found everyone but his best friend and that red haired menace. Behind a tree not so far off from where Zoro was looking Luffy smothered a giggle with one hand while the other gently gripped his idols hand.
Crush
It's only five years after meeting Shanks, two of those years spent being the friend of the fifteen year old, that Luffy announces loudly that he plans to marry Shanks. Because that's what you do when you're in love.
