"Commander Shepard Khalisah Bint Sinan Al-Jilani, with Westerlund news. Can I ask you a few questions?"
"Make it quick where (She points her thumb over her shoulder, pointing to her two companions) kind of in a rush to get some things done."
"Well Commander it's really only one question. How do you deal with all the idol worship you must receive?" Shepard took a minute to let the question sink in trying to find an emotion to settle on. She decided annoyed was the most appropriate.
"I don't like it. I don't like it because I think of myself, i'm just another soldier. But when people put me on a pedestal, it feels lonely. When people say The Normandy they only think of me, but in reality I couldn't do what I do without my crew. When i'm weak their strong, When I have a problem their there, hell without these two standing behind me I probably wouldn't make it through the day."
The camera panned over to Garrus and Chakwas. The reason they were on the citadel was because they needed to pick up more medical supplies and, it was easier for Chakwas to do it herself, but she needed some muscle to carry the supplies. They had been all over the Citadel and were headed to pick up the supplies when they were stopped but Al-Julani.
"Would you care to say who they are?" Al-Julani asked?
"That's the point. I shouldn't have to say who they are, people should know already. But I guess since I have to, The Turian is The Head Reaper advisor for the Turian Hierarchy, and my best friend… and boyfriend." Garrus straightened his back more than it already was, surprise took over his mind, and he rubbed the back of his neck, like always when he was nervous or unsure of his thoughts or actions. "And the other is The Normandy's doctor. Karin Chakwas. She has probably kept the whole crew from dying at least once."
"Commander I didn't know that you were with someone. When did this happen? What does the alliance think?"
"Well I don't care what the alliance thinks. As far as i'm concerned they can go to hell if they don't like it. The first contact war was 30 years ago and if the alliance can't get over it well that's just too bad. And him and I got together a few months before I was incarcerated. And now him and I are happy, or as happy as two people can be when the whole galaxy is hinging on what we say. Our life is stressful. And thirdly this is the first time i've said that in public. And it felt good. I love him and no one can take that from me. If someone does try i'll probably kill them."
"So you would kill to someone if they tried to separate you?"
"If it came down to it I would. The only people that would separate us, are us and that would be a decision made in private. Well that's it we have supplies to pick up and a galaxy to save… again." With that Shepard motioned to her companion so move it and they left.
The elevator stopped at Huerta memorial and chakwas quickly left to find someone she could talk to about the supplies. Leaving Garrus and Shepard in the waiting area.
"So it's official then." Garrus said.
Shepard smiled up at him and said. "Yeah I guess so. Sorry I didn't tell you about that it kind of slipped out. More or less."
"Is it more or less Shepard?"
"I guess it was less, I think that if people know that the beloved Commander Shepard has a boy toy that it will raise moral."
"A boy toy Shepard?"
"Uh… yeah sorry, come on big guy lets go get this stuff for Chakwas, then we can go do something you want."
"I like the way you think. I think we'll go do something I was not allowed to do while I worked at C-Sec."
