!!SPOILER ALERT!!- Catwoman Dies- the end of that
A/N: M'okay… my friend got the comic "Catwoman Dies" for my birthday… and was reading the end through lunch the next day blubbering like an idiot (honestly… and I gave Haz a guilt trip for it XD) and then my muse threw this at me…
p.s. let's play pretend… because I don't know everything about catwoman (yet)… so ignore any factual errors and slightly OOC-ness…
"Let him sleep, for in dreams we enter a world that's entirely our own. Where we can swim in the deepest oceans and float above the highest cloud"
Selina hung her head low, willing the dull ache in her soul to stop.
"Mama an' 'lena!"
She took in a quivering breath.
"Mama?"
The image of Helena's confused face as she was carried away, imprinted in her brain. "I'm so sorry, baby." She hadn't slept, or eaten since; just sat on the roof, occasionally jumping off to steal another bottle of chateau le pin pomerol. Her normally bright green eyes were dull with tears she couldn't shed.
She dragged herself up, wobbling slightly, and began to make her way off the roof.
Bruce lay in his bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking of everything and nothing. There was a tap on the balcony door. He sat up, trying to make out the dark figure beyond the glass. When he saw the luminous goggles, he climbed out of the bed.
Her head was aimed at the floor as she entered the now open door. She took her mask off while he stood there, wondering what she was doing. He opened his mouth several times to speak, but no words came forth.
Silently, Selina unzipped her costume, and slipped out of it, taking her boots and socks off as well. She stood there in her not-so-glamorous underwear, having not yet looked at his face.
She took his hand, and made her way toward the bed, tugging softly. Glad to finally know what to do, Bruce followed, although he was still confused as to what was going on.
Selina slid between the covers and pulled him down next to her. "Just… lie with me?"
He let out a breathy sigh, and moved closer to her. He positioned her so they were face-to-face, she nuzzled into his chest slightly as his arms wound around her, holding her close.
"In a way…I wish I got her to make me forget… it hurts too much to remember"
His lips lightly touched her forehead utterly lost at what else he could do or say.
"I want our baby back" she let out a dry sob and clung to him tighter.
Bruce stroked softly along her spine, whispering soothing sounds in her ear, much like he has done to his daughter. His baby. His little girl. He blinked back the tears that pricked at his eyes, and reminded himself that it was better this way. Helena was safe. Their girl could grow up without having to look over her shoulder all the time.
Bruce's actions combined with days without sleep; and at least half of that time spent crying, was taking its toll on Selina. Her lids started to droop, and she let herself drift off into her own world- where anything could happen.
Bruce on the other hand, stayed awake for a while, still stroking her soft skin. Reminiscing; Helena was perfect, just like her mother. He let out a regretful sigh as his hand moved from her back to her hair. He closed his eyes and eventually slipped off to sleep. Dreaming of all the possibilities of Selina and Helena being a permanent part of his life. But that is the only place it could happen. In dreams.
pleasy review... pretty pleasy with sugar and a cherry on top! – puppy dog eyes—
And yes I did steal that quote from the Harry Potter film :P…
