What if your world changes? Would you change to? Warren drabble - oneshot

SHIFTING PERSPECTIVES

It was strange, going from being an outcast, a loner, to being one of a crowd.

After the whole "Royal Pain" debacle, I thought it would go back to normal. Flower Power didn't need me to make the Boy Wonder jealous anymore. Popsicle was already taking some higher classes then me so he didn't need any study info, and Light-bulb and Rodent Girl were so wrapped up in each other that it seemed that they would need major surgery to separate them. You would think that I was surplus to requirements and that I could happily go back to my quiet table in the corner, and my copy of Homers' "The Iliad".

But no.

Every time I turned around there was one of Them.

Layla, trying to convince me that a Tofu wrap was a delicious substitute for a cheeseburger.

Magenta and Ethan trying to get me involved in their weekly debate over who was the cooler doctor - House or Ducky.

Zach throwing notes at my head during "Alternative Rescue Scenarios" class (usually resulting in a detention for me when I incinerated them).

And Will.

Will would come running to me begging for help when he and Layla would have their inevitable misunderstanding or argument over virtually nothing, and I would have to explain to him exactly why he was an idiot this time.

But it wasn't just that. It wasn't just them trying to involve or help me.

It was when they would calm me down after almost losing my temper at whatever bone-headed thing Boomer would say this week.

It was them plotting a revenge against Freeze Girl after I caught her cheating on me (the plan seemed to involve duct tape, a sleeping bag, a blow-up doll and large quantities of cold baked beans).

It was when they would show up at the Paper Lantern on the weekend and had fun during the quiet periods. Ethan would do his Chopstick Trick and they would all have competitions over who got the weirdest fortune in their cookie.

It was when they threw me a surprise party for my birthday.

I am part of a group now, and the thing is I don't really remember what it was like before.

Maybe I don't want to remember.

Fin.
