I always knew a workout was going well when the sweat on my skin began to run down my face dropping onto the gym's floor. Yes, I also knew that to some people that was absolutely revolting, but I was wise enough to know that exercising sure didn't make me look pretty while doing it.
By now my entire basketball team and I were completely drenched in sweat after our intensity workout we held every Monday morning before school. Yes, I also knew that practicing every day for at least four hours was considered unhealthy and too much, but I did take every Sunday off. That had to count for something, right?
It's not like anyone else had time to socialize too considering that we all went to a sports induced school. Alicante High, my high school, was considered one of the nation's best athletic schools. Our rivals? The demons.
My mom had finally realized that I was talented enough to actually do something with all of my hard work, so she allowed me to move in with my uncle, Luke in New York. Here I tried out for the Alicante team about a week ago, and I was proud to say that I was on the varsity team.
My first day of school started today and to say I was nervous was an understatement. I had been the best at my old school, but now? I was just one in about a thousand students.
Now if you're familiar with sports at all you're probably wondering why the basketball season has already started in September. Like I said earlier, I'm going to a sports induced school that completely focuses on the sport you're playing in. We still attend classes, but the homework is lessened considering the fact that every student plays a sport.
"Great job girls," my team captain, Isabelle, called out. "See you all later today at school."
I smiled and waved goodbye to my new friends and went to the locker room. Undressing into clean clothes and redoing my ponytail, I stepped out of the locker room and glanced into the gym. The boy's basketball team had started practicing. Sweat had started to glisten on their arms as they shot ball after ball, pass after pass.
"Clary?" I heard Izzy ask from behind me. "You're still here?"
"Yeah, just watching," I said, pointing toward the guys.
"Their pretty good, huh?" she asked.
I nodded as they danced across the court, playing a game only they could play so well. Everyone had worked their way up to the top, but only a few lucky ones had made it.
"Need a ride? Or are you going to ogle at them for the rest of the morning?" she teased.
I pretended to ponder it. "Hmm… I don't know," I laughed. "They do look pretty hot right now."
She laughed and we continued to talk until we parted ways and drove home. I had become pretty close friends with Izzy the past week. She had informed me on all of the past year's drama that she deamed was important for me to know.
For example, the famous Jace Wayland. Total player, but a prodigy on the basketball court. He already had scholarships from the top schools trying to get him to attend there. But I totally wasn't jealous or anything…
When I got home I went straight to the bathroom where I took an ice bath to soothe my sore muscles. In a way it calmed me, instead of waking me up. When I got out, I went straight to my bed and fell asleep, dreaming about the possibilities of today, and the future. I had 30 minutes to sleep before I had to get ready for school after the stupid morning practice we had.
I awoke to the sound of death, my alarm clock. Quickly getting ready and grabbing another quick breakfast I made my way to school. Pulling into the parking lot, I spotted Izzy and Maia.
"Hey Clary long time no see," they exclaimed.
I waved.
"Did you hear about Jace?" Maia whispered.
I rolled my eyes. "I haven't even seen this guy yet and everybodies always talking about him. Is he really that good?"
They nodded as I grabbed the books from my locker. Before I knew what was happening my books were scattered all over the ground.
"Oops!" a girl exclaimed. "I must've been so distracted by you Jace that I didn't see her."
I looked up from my books to see a slim, fit girl wearing a cheerleading outfit (who wears that to school anyways I thought) and tons of makeup. To the right of her stood him.
Finally looking at the 'Golden God' everyone had been talking about, I could completely understand what the rave about him was. He was completely golden, from his blonde hair to tanned, toned skin and golden eyes.
"Kailee," Jace sighed, "help the poor girl and pick up her books."
"Hmph," she sighed. "It's not my fault," she said, placing her hand on his bicep, "that your so distracting."
He completely ignored her and bent down to retrieve my books. His arm muscles flexing as he picked them up handing them to me. "Here yah go red," he said winking.
"Thanks," I muttered back, turning towards Izzy and Maia, completely oblivious to the blonde's frown.
"What was that?" Izzy hissed.
"What?!" I exclaimed.
"We need to work on your flirting skills," Maia muttered.
"My flirting skills?" I questioned. "I am not about to flirt with the quote 'famous Jace Wayland. The school's prodigy and player'."
They frowned at me. "Your loss."
I sighed and we walked our separate ways to our homeroom. The rest of the day was uneventful until my last class, Physical Education. Izzy, Maia, and I shared this class.
So, dressing into our P.E. uniform and being informed by the gym teacher that they 'took gym here seriously.'
"So, I want you all to split off into your different sports. Cheerleading and dance in the right corner, baseball and softball by the bleachers, volleyball by the girl's locker room, soccer and track in the left corner, and basketball next to the boy's locker room."
We walked towards the boy's locker room and I glanced at everyone surrounding me. Sure enough, Jace was in my gym class. He caught me looking at him and he smirked. I glanced away.
"Divide yourself into teams," the teacher instructed, "and head outside towards the track for relay races."
I groaned. Relay races, really? "Relay races?" I inquired towards Izzy.
She smirked and said, "You'll see."
"Boys against girls?" Jace asked.
I smiled, my competitive side taking over. "Definitley."
As we walked out towards the track, the incoming autumn breeze nipped at my bare skin relieving me from the hot glistening sun. I sighed, hoping this was actually going to be fun.
"First off, races," the teacher ordered. "You see those rubber chickens over there?"
Oddly enough, we all nodded. There were rubber chickens sitting on a large box all marked a different color.
"First team to bring back the chicken from the box to every person and back wins. They'll face the other winning teams."
"So basically we're running a rubber chicken back and forth as quickly as possible," a girl asked.
The teacher nodded. "Basically, now get in your orders."
We did as he said, getting in a line. I was in the back of the line, so was Jace.
"Ready! Set! Go!" he yelled.
Our starters took off running. To my surprise everyone was full out sprinting and cheering on their teammates. Everything seemed normal enough until they reached the rubber chickens. With every step they took the chickens squeaked. I looked toward Izzy and Maia and bursted out laughing.
In between gasps of laughs I asked, "What," gasp. "Is," gasp. "Happening?"
"Welcome to Alicante's relay races," a dark haired guy answered from the line next to us. "I'm Sebastian by the way."
I stuck out my hand and said, "Clary."
He chuckled and said, "Hello Clary."
I laughed. "Hi."
"Yeah we definitly need to work on her flirting skills," I heard Izzy mutter from behind me. I turned around and slapped her arm.
"Hey!" she exclaimed. "That hurt."
"You hurt my feelings," I replied, smirking.
The last thing I heard from Izzy before she took off running was, "You hurt my brain from your awful flirting skills!"
I scoffed.
"Don't worry red," Jace said chuckling, "I'm sure they're not that bad."
AN: Hi guys! I had a new story idea and I just had to share it. But don't worry I'm not giving up on any of my other stories. Anyways, I hope you love it as much as I do.
