Miley set down her iced soda on the smooth wood counter. Her best friend, Lilly Trescott, did the same.
"So this is it? Right?" Miley asked.
"I guess so," Lilly responded. They were the only two left on the beach, and at Rico's Surf Shoppe.
"So, you're really moving?"
Lilly nodded. A tear slipped down her face.
"All the way to Italy too," Lilly said.
Miley gasped. "You never told me that part!"
"I know I should have, but I couldn't bring myself to speak those haunted words."
"You are moving halfway around the world. Why?"
"Uh, my Mom got promoted in her job."
It started to sprinkle rain. Lilly couldn't tell if it was the rain or tears that covered Miley's face.
"Miles, don't worry."
"Easier said then done."
"True, but I can't do a thing about it know."
Miley took a sip of her soda.
"Here," Lilly started, "I want you to have this."
Lilly pulled out a skateboard from under her chair.
"Lilly, your first skateboard," Miley whispered.
"For you."
"Thanks. I'll cherish it forever, Lilly."
It started to pour rain. They stood up and looked at each other.
"Lilly, what were those haunted words you said about earlier?"
"I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you too," Miley said.
Lilly ran over and hugged Miley. She grabbed Miley's hand. "Remember me. Promise?"
"I will always remember you. Remember me too, okay?" Miley asked.
"I promise."
Miley then let go of Lilly's hand. Forever.
