Title: Losing
Genre: Romance/Angst
Warning: Language, vague references to 'play time' between a man and woman
Disclamer: I don't own Grey's or Lifehouse.
Summary: Mark always looses the woman he wants to Derek. He must have the 'Art of Losing' down by the time he lost Meredith.
Notes: Added 'missing scenes', blant Mark/Meredith oneside Life through Mark's eyes. Honestly, not that good, but it won't go away, and I want sleep. Badly.
"cause I am hanging on every word you say and
even if you don't want to speak tonight
that's alright, alright with me
cause I want nothing more than
to sit outside Heaven's door
and listen to you breathing
is where I wanna be yeah"
-Breathing by Lifehouse
Mark always lost the competition for the women he really wanted.
He always lost those women to Derek.
Tisha in highschool.
Addison in college.
And now, he's lost another woman.
When he walked through those doors to Seattle Grace, he was looking for Addie.
Then, he saw her.
Piete, wavy blonde hair, blue blue eyes, and the flirty attitude. And for the first time in months, he wasn't head over heels for Addie. He was enamored with the sight of this woman.
And then he saw Derek's fist.
And it all came crumbling down.
Then, they met at the bar. Discussed life as a 'dirty mistress', drank, and shared a sloppy, drunken kiss.
A kiss, he realized later, that Meredith forgot.
Along with an ending conversation on how to better their lives by living past their 'other'.
A conversation he forgot as well.
Evidently.
And then he left.
And tried to forget her. But he found he couldn't live without her. Without her voice, her laughter, or seeing her.
And came back.
For 'Addie'.
What a lie.
He came back for his fellow mistress.
A mistress he wanted.
Another 'leftover' of Derek.
Another broken woman cryong for Derek.
Yet, this time, she was stronger.
Dating two men. And now, he wished she would add a third.
And then she went into surgery.
And he talked to the 'drugged' Mer in the hallway. That was one hell of a conversation.
But then, when both 'McDreamy' and 'McVet' had abandoned her side for a moment, he went in and talked to her. Told her he admired her, and wish she would 'just look at him'. She said, in that drunk tone of hers, that she did. Everyday. And that he had a hot ass.
That earned her a laugh. And a kiss on the forehead and he left.
He knew she would forget, but still hoped she wouldn't.
And then, they went for drinks.
And he asked her to choose him.
And then Derek came in.
And Mark lost Meredith Grey to Derek.
And by then, he had perfected the Art of Losing.
Because by Meredith, he had lost three.
Third time, evdidently, isn't the charm.

Honestly, McSteamy or McHurtMe? Uh, hell-friggin-O Mer! McSteamy, duh.
Derek's fallen out of favor. Mark, keep on talkin'.
