Colourful Cylindrical Objects
Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill was puzzled.
No, confused. Completely and utterly confused.
Before him lay a colourful cylindrical object. All sorts of patterns covered the thing. He picked it up with small, dainty Andalite hands and inspected it, wondering its purpose.
Perhaps it is a Yeerk trap, he thought suspiciously. Cautiously, he placed it back on the ground and trotted toward the exit of Cassie's barn.
Crrrrrrunch!!!
Startled, his stalk eyes spun around, searching for the source of the sound. With a sinking feeling in his chest, he realised that whatever it was, he had just stepped on it.
Ax slowly raised his right front hoof from the ground, seeing the crushed object beneath. Drawing a breath, he realised that it was, or had been, yet another cylindrically shaped object. And obviously, they were quite fragile, if the evidence on his foot was any sign.
Sighing, he brushed the colourful debris off his foot, and, coming to a decision, began to search for similar objects.
He soon discovered that he barn floor was littered with the things, having found them everywhere, even in the injured raccoon's cage. It had taken some patience and, in some cases, raw courage, but he had managed to retrieve every one
Satisfied, he morphed human and walked to Cassie's house, the fragile objects sitting precariously in his now large human arms. If he remembered correctly, her parents were away at the time, on some sort of trip to visit relatives. Cassie had opted to stay home, knowing that if she was needed in battle…
Well, perhaps now she was, Ax thought. Though he had decided that if this were some Yeerk trick, it was possibly the most ridiculous ever conceived, he had not cancelled it out as a solution to this… this outrageousness entirely.
When he reached the house, he realised that he was now facing a dilemma of a sort. His arms were too full to open the door! He started to set the colourful objects on the patio bench, but when one tumbled out of his arms and landed on the floor with yet another crrrrrrunch! he decided against it.
Ax frowned, a human expression he had picked up. What was he to do now?
His face lit up as he remembered that Cassie's back door was almost always left open in the heat of the summer. Smiling now, he walked carefully to the back of the house, his rather large bundle swaying back and forth with his jerky movements.
"Ax?"
At the unexpected call, he stopped far too quickly, and several of the objects bounced out of his arms. Annoyed, he turned, and barely managed to stand still enough to keep his fragile bundle from breaking as he saw Cassie.
Cassie, however, having not realised that Ax was about to turn, kept walking before seeing what was Ax's arms. But it was too late.
There was one final crrrrrrunch as the Easter Eggs in Ax's arms shattered, a gasp as Cassie stumbled back in surprise. Then, "Oh, man, Marco's gonna kill me!"
"What?" Ax asked in confusion.
Cassie laughed, shaking her head. "I told Jake we should have told you about our Easter Egg Hunt!"
"What?"
Affectionate exasperation written clearly on her face, Cassie took Ax's arm. "Come on," she said. "I'll explain as we on the way. Marco's gonna be sooo mad! We might be able to make use of that tail of yours!"
Hopelessly confused, Ax followed Cassie, wondering if he would ever understand these strange creatures called humans.
