(A/N: This was inspired when I saw that "third wife" was listed as a character in the Twilight category. If anyone's memory needs refreshing, the third wife was one of the Quileute legends that was told in Eclipse. The third wife was the wife of one of the werewolves who was fighting against a vampire. The third wife sacrificed herself to distract the vampire so her husband could win the fight. [At least, I'm 99 percent sure that's what happens-I'm too lazy to look in my copy of Eclipse.] Enjoy!)
Third Wife
When Leah sees Jacob struggling in his fight against the vampire, that's when it clicks.
Bella isn't the third wife. Neither is Emily, Kim, or anyone else. It's Leah. She's the third wife.
Leah can see her sacrificing herself to save someone she loves. She just never pictured the person she would be saving as Jacob.
None of this matters to Leah right now. The only thing that matters is saving Jacob.
Leah knows that she has to act quickly; otherwise the vampire will realize that Leah is a werewolf and won't want her blood.
It goes quickly. Much quicker than Leah thought it would. One minute she's alive, the next she's not.
Jacob swiftly attacks while the vampire is distracted by Leah's blood, not even giving himself a second to grieve for Leah.
Once the vampire is completely dead, Jacob lies down next to Leah's body and mourns Leah, his third wife.
(A/N: The last sentence isn't literal-Leah isn't really Jacob's third wife. I might write something about the battle as a prequel to this. And of course, reviews are love!)
