Isabelle learns the hard way that no matter what she does, no harsh word, no crack of her whip, no threat from Alec or Jace would make Raphael give up. He's persistent, never giving up in his pursuit of her like some crazed bulldog.
And she has to remind herself repeatedly that ever devastatingly smile, every sweet word that passes his lips, every 'accidental' touch from his cold hands – every move was all part of some sadistic, elaborate, cruel game of his.
But when she once again, slams the door on his infuriatingly handsome face, knowing he'd be back with more saccharine compliments and pretty gifts, she finds that she can't help but feel excitement and anticipation for his next visit.
She's not really that surprised when he succeeds in wooing her, any woman could hold off so long from such skillful enticement. And its weeks in their relationship that she discovers his intolerance for conforming against his desires, he does not like to concede to any demand, plea or threat thrown at his feet.
He is immovable like stone; nothing would come to pass unless he willed it to because he was a master at manipulation, playing with the lives of others as if they were puppets in the dangerous show that was his malicious game.
He was completely inarguable and she makes it a point to never ask for anything for she knows that no matter how 'fond' Raphael maybe of her, she would never get her way.
There comes the time when he starts taking her with him to visit his family; she is surprised to see a light in his eyes, a spark of life and warmth that gives her hope that he may not be as cold and lifeless as she originally thought.
Weeks later, when his whole family dies in a terrible fire, the light leaves his eyes and she can see that even though he's hurting, for some male macho rule or something, he never let's himself cry. He just builds walls of impenetrable ice around himself which she knows she can never get through.
The hope she has on seeing the light and warmth she once saw in him diminishes one day when he corrects her about her foolish notions and that he would never care nor love for her because he was not human but a monster who thought of her as only a possession, a pretty plaything that when he tired of, he would guiltlessly discard like useless trash.
She takes this all in with her heart constricting as she stares into fathomless, cold eyes that tell her to run away and never come back but she doesn't.
She stays by his side only because she loves him too much and she can never really give up hope he'd love her back, even when that small voice inside her head tells her different, she hopes and if he truly could never love her, then she would love enough for the both of them because besides hoping, that's all she could really do.
There is some OOCness with the characters but I had to tweak with them a bit to make the story work.
I based the story on a quote my cousin gave me, "A devil never surrenders, never gives in nor does he cry because he is never human". Something like that she doesn't really remember the quote much but it's from the game she's addicted to, 'Devil May Cry'.
The title I used for the story, I heard was the original name for the game but was later changed.
