The Dark Sorceress has always lusted for power that wasn't hers, but she was not always evil. Once, she was just a fairy princess destined to forever be second to her charming sister, Lucinda, who was to become the Fairy Queen. As the Sorceress was growing up, her greed became more and more great, ultimately overpowering her, controlling her completely until she was a completely different person, the kind who is willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants. After an attempt to take Lucinda from the Fairy Throne, she was exiled to a desolate and deserted region of a planet called Aldenmor—and that land bears name to her influence: the Shadowlands.

Originally, three mages were assigned to protect the wildlife preserve in Stonehill, Pennsylvania. These were three women—still mostly children, only thirteen—assigned a duty to keep the magic of the universe safe, and overall, to protect Avalon. Emily, the Healer, Adriane, the Warrior, and Kara, the Blazing Star, were bound together by fate. Their decisions and human desires made the journey difficult, but eventually they managed to keep Avalon and its Web of Magic safe from the clutches of the Dark Sorceress—once a fairy princess, destined to forever be belittled under the shine of her sister Lucinda's brightness. The Dark Sorceress's lust for power that didn't belong to her changed her in such a way that she could never return from the darkness that completely enveloped her soul a 1 her—but silence her they did, after many personal and magical battles. After the Dark Sorceress was defeated, Emily, Adriane, and Kara discovered that the Web of Magic is much more coincidental than it seems. Fate destined the three to take their separate ways, so that three other young mages could replace them in case another dark power rose up to devour Avalon's magic once more.

Three new mages come to Stonehill, Pennsylvania from very different backgrounds under many different circumstances. One has come to Earth from the refuge of the Fairy Realms in the hopes of escaping her past. Another has left the planet of Aldenmore to start over after her parents' death. Another still searches an escape from the luxuries of a royal lifestyle. There is a connection between these three mages' magic—but it is unknown why or how they are connected. It is up to these three to find out what makes their combined magic so strong and why it is so difficult to control at times—and it is up to them to defend the magic of Avalon, in jeopardy again because of a sorcerer whose motives are cruel and deeds are secret.
