A Fan-fiction about Fan-fiction and the End of RENT

The curtain fell for the last time. September 7th 2008, the cast of RENT were sad but the characters were even more upset.

"Why did it have to end?!" wailed Maureen. Roger plugged his ears to avoid the high pitched wail.

"Maureen, Honey-bear, all good things must come to an end . . ." Joanne tried to pacify the diva.

"I know but I don't WANT it to end!" Maureen cried in vain.

"Reena," Mark addressed his ex-girlfriend, "You can't change what you can't control . . . it's a fact of life."

"Mark's right," Mimi interjected, "Jonathan wrote a great piece of work . . . but like all things, it became old and no one came to see it anymore . . ."

"Not since Adam and Anthony came and played Mark's and my part," Roger grumbled. It was true: After Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp (The original cast of RENT) came to perform in the summer and fall of 2007, sales plummeted.

"Don't blame them." Mark said tiredly. "They're doing the tour."

"But still," Collins said, "It sucks that this had to close."

"I know Baby," Angel, fully dressed in drag said, "But think of it this way: it's so popular that, in another five or so years, someone is bound to do a revival."

"You know, as much as I hate that he/she killed my dog, he/she does have a point." Benny said.

"Yeah, and then we'll be back!" Maureen cried cheerfully, completely doing a 180 from her previous mood.

"But what are we supposed to do with ourselves now that we're off-Broadway?" Mark asked.

Everyone thought for a moment.

"There's always Fan-fiction." Mimi said.

"Fan-fiction? You mean that stuff RENTheads write for fun? The same stuff that breaks Maureen and me up so much and pairs Roger and Mark together?" Joanne asked.

"Yup, that stuff," Mimi confirmed.

Everyone thought again for a moment.

"I'm game." Angel said. "Except I want more smut than Mark and Roger!!"

"Not gonna happen!" Roger shouted before dragging Mark out of the theater. "This ass is MINE to fuck!"

"Bull shit Rog!" Collins called after him, "Angel and I are WAY cuter a couple than you!"

"Wait!" Mimi yelled, "Roger! Aren't you supposed to be MY boyfriend?"

"I am . . . sometimes!" Roger laughed, still dragging Mark to the back.

Benny and Joanne just shook their heads. "Here we go again. . ."

And there was smut between Mark and Roger. And Roger switched between Mark and Mimi often. And everyone was happy in the Fan-fiction world. And crzyRENThead kept writing RENT fan-fictions on . And it was good.
