*I don't own Jane and the Dragon or its characters
Watching from the swing that hangs on the cherry tree, Jane admires her new sword as she turns it over to examine its sharpness and swinging it around getting used to its weight, she heeds little attention to me. A growing sense of jealousy builds up as she talks sweetly and fondly to an inanimate object that separates me and Jane. With the first idea that popped into my head, I exclaim "Where's my shoe? I could have sworn to have just had it"
Without looking, she replied "It's where it always is, on your foot"
"No, I'm talking about my other shoe, have you seen it?
Sheathing her sword, she looks down at my feet " It's right there on your other foot "
"So it is, silly me"
It's not going to work, plan two
"I say Jane, what is this rattling noise I keep hearing?"
"That would be the bells on your hat"
"So it is, I say you've always been a sharp one. Perhaps sharper than that new sword of yours"
"What does that mean?"
"It simply means you're smart"
Unsheathing her sword, she admires it once more, smiling at her reflection on its polished side.
It seems that my little plan isn't working, time for the last resort
Jumping off the swing, I kneel declaring my thoughts out loud "Oh the troubled soul! How it pains me to see my affections lost to a voiceless being."
"Jester!"
"What will it take to earn her heart once more? Shall I smite myself with its sharp tip to make you see my devotion? Can it not be so that a fool deserves more than laughter, but a little, just a little love? My lady, oh my fiery knight, won't you, won't you, show me your love, your light? A little light steals the darkness away, giving way for life and breath to course through, for its whole being to live, to like, to love. Oh so much love how good it is like a drink in the hottest of deserts, how it is like the warmth of hot cider in the coldest of winters, or the sun that blazes burning me into the nothingness that I'm willing to bear since it hurts so good. So won't you, won't you give in to this fools foolish wish?"
Walking towards me wielding that dangerous mass of metal called a sword, pointed directly inches away from my eyes, she laughingly "Jester!"
"When I said I liked exciting, I didn't mean this"
Sheathing her sword, I released the breath which feared to let go. Sitting down next to me, she smiled "I'm sorry Jester have I kept you waiting long?"
"If you call an hour a long time, then no not at all"
With a light kiss on my cheek, she asked "Am I forgiven?"
"Just this once since you're my favorite lady knight"
"Come on, let's get going"
Helping her to her feet, I asked jokingly "To our happily ever after?"
"To our tower you fool"
"You mean your fool"
"Let's go home my fool"
Looking down at my hands, I lightly touch the silver ring on my left hand. Reassuring it's truly my reality, I look back up to my wife and declare proudly "Whatever you say, my lady knight"
