A Few Sips Off
The liquid runs down her throat hot and burning. She's holding her breath and as soon as she breaths in the smell of alcohol overwhelms her. She tries to hide her distaste but her nose crinkles. From across the table laughter erupts. Riza's eyes dart up and she glares at him.
"That was priceless Hawkeye!" Mustang says gasping for air.
A lime flies across the room and hits him the forehead. All of their friends burst into laughter.
"Hey! What was that for!?" He whines holding the injured spot.
Riza glares at him and leaves to the restroom.
"Women." Mustang curses under his breath.
Riza splashes her face with water but it does not help. Everything is starting to turn blurry. She holds onto the sink and concentrates on her breathing. Seriously! She was a soldier, one who had seen the atrocities of the Ishvalan War, a lieutenant of the military and she couldn't hold her liquor.
She chuckled and resolved herself to go back to the table with as much control as she could muster. Mustang and the rest of the crew would never let her forget. She walked out of the restroom and into the hallway. It seemed darker than she remembered and she had to use the wall as her guide. Suddenly she bumped into someone.
"Excuse me." She said and tried to walk around them.
"What's the hurry?" The man in front of her said and pushed her against the wall.
Her senses were groggy and her head slammed against the wall with too much force. She reached for the belt where she kept her guns only to find the smooth wait of her skirt. The man pressed his body against hers. She tried to push him off but her strength failed her.
"What is a beauty like you doing here all by herself?" He said into her ear.
Riza started to panic, her body wasn't responding to her and she felt defenseless.
"What makes you think she's alone?" Someone said from close by and the man was suddenly gone.
Mustang stood over the man. He was on the floor clutching his jaw. There was a look of pure hatred on Mustangs eyes. His eyes moved to her and his whole demeanor changed, he rushed to her.
"Are you okay?" He said taking her face into his hands.
"Yes." She said breathless.
"Don't ever do that to me." He said looking into her eyes.
"Do what?"
"Get yourself into harm's way."
"I didn't get myself into this Roy." She said indignant.
He chuckled and hugged her, resting his head on her hair. "I know, I just never want to lose you."
She smiled against his chest. Riza had never had a place to call home but she was sure she had finally found it.
