This is a little piece I wrote for my friend TobiLikesWaffles. I like it, and I hope you do to. Tell me by reviewing! ^_^
Kakashi stared down at the memorial stone. The bravest of the Uchihas was there, his smile only seen in his memory. He had failed his sensei, he friends, and his students. Sasuke was gone, Naruto was off with Jiriaya and even Sakura was blossoming into a young lady. Here he was, stuck in the past, while everyone around him grew up.
Growing up. What did that even mean? He was grown up now, but Obito would never grow up. He was stuck as a thirteen year old forever. Kakashi was grown up, and he wondered how he would look in the eyes of his sorely missed friends. Older, surely, and more weary in the ways of the world. He had thought he was an adult once, the day he had become a Jonin. He'd had to redefine the word after the loss of Obito. After the loss of Minato. And again after the loss of Rin.
He knelt down, and touched the stone with his hand. The closest he could get with his lost friends. With his lost family…
And his heart yearned even more as he remembered his father, Sakumo, and the even more distant memories of his sweet mother.
Kakashi realized it was raining. Pouring, in fact. He didn't care. The rain only emphasized made the pain in his heart. Every day he lived he lived a lie, pretending to all he was healed and whole, that he was happy. But he did his duty to Konoha. He had grown up.
He stayed there for countless hours, thinking no more than he had to. After a long time he was vaguely aware of someone standing next to him. He looked over and saw for a brief instant Obito grinning broadly at him. He blinked, and Tsunade stood there instead.
"You're late."
Kakashi didn't speak for a moment. Then he said, "What am I late for?"
"Your mission."
Kakashi didn't merit that with a response. He was still absorbed in his own thoughts.
"That's not really important." she said softly. He looked up. This wasn't like her at all. "Do you know how long you've been out here?"
"Not really."
"Three days."
This startled him. He wasn't tired or hungry, just filled with emotions he couldn't place. Mostly sad and feelings of mourning. She walked over and felt his forehead.
"You're burning up."
He didn't move. But even as she spoke, he felt himself sway.
"You're an idiot, Kakashi." she said gently.
Tsunade looked down at him and whispered. "It's ok. I know you miss them, but it'll be ok."
He didn't say anything. He couldn't.
"It's not your fault."
"How do you know?"
Tsunade grabbed his arm and pulled him up. "C'mon. You need treatment."
As she led him away from the only people whom he had ever loved, she pretended not to see the tears traveling down his face.
*Sniffle* Ok, that was very sad. But I know that already. Tell how good you think it was! Make my day! Review!
