Weaknesses

a Djap story

It was raining heavily as Allison suddenly had her epiphany. Everyone was gathered around the small grave, all of them grieving the loss of Fargo in their own way.

Jack was there too, crying as Allison had never seen him cry before. He was standing very close to Nathan, not close enough to touch, but close enough to soak up the other man's strength and close enough to make her still feel the jealousy despite her grief and the fact that the two men had been openly dating for over a year now. Jack looked very weak that way and utterly helpless, although the blonde was never ashamed to show his tears and always let them fall freely. In her book that was always a sign of strength and not one of weakness, even if she hadn't been very fond of him since he stole her husband away.

Nathan didn't make a move to steady his lover in his mourning though, but neither seemed Jack to expect something ridiculous like that. Nathan Stark was no man for open displays of affection of any kind, especially not showing empathy.

Instead Nathan was standing at the first row, ramrod straight, looking impassive and somehow detached from the whole ceremony. Fargo had been working on one of his mentor's projects as the accident happened, but her hus… ex-husband looked even colder than usual. Only because she'd been married to Nathan did she knew, that he did care right now, even though he'd never show his real feelings in the open.

That wouldn't stop him from breaking down once he was home though, as she'd seen him do on many occasions before. She'd always scolded him for this behavior. At first she'd been flattered at the open show of emotion and the trust he put in her, but soon she'd felt overwhelmed with the passion. She couldn't be his much needed source of strength and calmness, so she made the mistake of trying to change him.

She hadn't been strong enough to handle Nathan and it pained her to see, that'd he'd finally found his match, because that meant, she'd lost him for good. She'd always known he loved her, but the intensity with which he did, had driven her away in the end. She couldn't deal with a cold and detached Nathan at work, just to deal with an emotionally overloaded man at home.

Jack Carter obviously managed just fine.

And even more than that: right from the start Jack had been able to tickle Nathan's emotions out in public. For once he'd shown outside of their home his passion and back then she should have realized earlier, that she hadn't been the cause of it, but Jack. Back then all three of them hadn't realized that much, but finally all of them did.

In the end the two men moved on, while she was left. She'd been angry at both of them, sad and jealous until she'd seen them standing that day at Fargo's grave.

She saw how much they needed each other, so she finally let them go for good.

It was a good day for openly grieving anyway.
