"Albel Nox and Fayt Leingod, show yourselves right now! You two are in so much trouble for this!" a woman's voice calls before heading down the hall.
"Think she's gone?" asks a young boy grinning at his friend as he pushes his short blue hair out of his face.
"Maybe, but if we stay here she'll come back." His two-tone haired friend replies peaking a look out from behind the decorative statue they where hiding behind, not caring that his own hair was falling in his face.
"There's no one around. We should move now." He says moving back behind the statue.
"But where are we going to hide A'b'l? They'll find us in the house."
"That's why we hide outside Fay'" Albel says like he was stating the obvious.
"But we're not allowed to leave the yard alone! And we can't hide in the yard! They'll find us there too!" Fayt says waving an orange ball around.
"Careful with that!" Albel hisses putting his left hand on the ball to stop the waving. "That's what got us in trouble to begin with! Anyway, we won't be alone, we'll have each other!"
"Well…Okay…But we can't be hiding too long, remember Uncle Glou's friend, what was his name, Oh yes! Zelpher is coming and bringing his family." Fayt reminds his red eyed friend.
"So we'll show up a little late." Albel says pulling Fayt out from behind the statue and down the hall heading for the back door.
"We were told to be on our best behavior, remember! AND you were told to be nice to his daughter, Nel." Fayt says as they slip out the back door and into the warm Kirilsa weather.
"Who wants to be nice to a girl?" Albel says just as the door shuts.
Chapter two:"Hey Albel," Fayt says as they walk around the town of Kirilsa.
"Yeah Fay'?" Albel asks looking at his nerves friend.
"Um…Thanks…" Fayt replies looking at the ground.
"What for?" Albel questions, stopping, Fayt stopping next to him.
"For convincing you parents to take me in, I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't." he says running a hand threw his short hair.
"You would have thought of something…" Albel says.
"But…"
"And!" Albel interrupts what Fayt was about to say, "I didn't convince them of anything, as soon as you told them the only memories you had was your name, age and being my friend, they were ready to adopt you! They're still talking about it; they just want to be sure you're happy here." Albel finishes and starts walking again.
Fayt stares at the place Albel had just stood, before he runs to catch up with his friend. "Do you mean it? Do you mean it, A'b'l? They want to adopt me?!" He asks slowing down to a walk by his friend again.
"I mean it! We'll be brothers, and you'll be Fayt Nox!"
"Fayt Nox…I like the sound of that!" Fayt says with a grin.
Two hours later the two boys can be seen stopping to catch their breath from playing tag, huge grins on their faces as they try to stop laughing so as to save breath.
"I…so…tagged…you…!" Albel says between breaths, his hand holding his hurting side.
"Did…not…!" Fayt says hands on his knees as he too tries to breathe while talking.
"Found you." A hand grasping each of their shoulders make them jump. With a gulp both boys look behind their shoulders to find a soldier behind each of them. "Uh oh…." Both boys mutter upon seeing the unhappy faces of the two black brigade soldiers.
"Lord Nox has been looking for you boys. He sent us out a half an hour ago to find you." The one holding Albel's shoulder says as both soldiers turn the child they are hold around and start off in the direction of the Nox Mansion, the boys having no choice but to walk in front of them. "Right this way young Lords, and don't even think of running." The one holding Fayt says dashing any ideas Albel and Fayt were coming up with.
