Tears and Comfort
Disclaimer: I don't own Anise or Jade or Tales of the Abyss.
Author's Note: This just came to me one day and I thought 'why not write about it?' I hope you enjoy another one of my flash fic or ficlet. Major Spoiler Alert!
"Stupid Ion, why did you have to go and die for?" Anise sobs, tears falling from her face. She is leaning against a wall in her bedroom. She could not get over the death of Ion and it is making her more depressed than anything is.
"Anise," she hears a familiar voice. She looks up to see Colonel Jade. Anise starts to rub her eyes to dry her tears, but more fell from her weary eyes.
Jade kneels down by her and for the first time, Anise saw genuine care and concern so obvious in the Colonel's eyes. She knew it was hard for him to show emotion. "It's alright to cry. Mohs will not get away with this. Everyone will make him pay."
"I never thought I'll hear that out of you, Colonel," Anise states, feeling herself calming down. However, she curls up into a ball and buries her head on her knees, not being able to stand looking at anyone.
Jade sighs as he stares down at Anise. He found it a pity that she is feeling this way. Jade knows that Ion would want Anise to be happy. After all, Anise was Ion's most precious. "Do you blame yourself, Anise?"
"How can I not?" Anise shouts out, tears falling faster. She lifts her head and stares at Jade defiantly. "It's all my fault that Ion's dead. Gloomietta is right, I killed Ion." Anise starts to shake, not being able to handle the stress no longer.
Jade wraps his arms around Anise, trying his hardest to calm her down. Before Ion's death, Ion asked Jade to protect Anise if something ever happened to him. As much of a cold guy Jade is, he will respect the dead's wishes.
Anise freezes when Jade wraps his arms around her. Deciding to not care anymore, she bawls. The emotions that she held in came out in full force. "Wh-why d-did I-Io-Ion ha-have to d-d-die? It's no-not fair!" She pounds her small fist against Jade's chest as she wails. Anise loved Ion more than anything; she would have done anything for him, why did he have to die?
Jade held onto her tighter. Soon, it would seem Anise fell asleep, finally drained and exhausted. He let's out a frown as he picks her up. Putting her to bed, he was about to walk away, when something held onto his hand. It was Anise and she is looking at him with puffy bloodshot eyes. "Can you stay with me Jade?" She pleads in the softest tone he has ever heard.
"Fine, go to sleep though. I believe tomorrow we leave," Jade says. Anise let go of his hand. Jade drags a chair near her bed and settles as comfortably as he could. Jade gives Anise and awkward smile and closes his eyes himself.
"Thank you," Anise closes her eyes, going to sleep for real this time.
"You're welcome."
So, what did you guys think? This is a major spoiler; I hope that that offends no one.
