Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, no matter how much I'd like to.

A/N Snape/Lily. Severus Snape kissed Lily Evans one time. He cared about her, and she cared about him, but he knew she loved someone else. Still, he'd made a fatal mistake and now he'd never be able to kiss her, ever again.

For the 'Random Picking Challenge', if you'd like to write a fic for this challenge, here are the rules:

Pick any character you want, from your favorite fandom.

Pick your favorite fandom to write in, and go to its fanfiction archive.

Go to story number twelve on the first page. Pick one of the characters in that fic to write about. No matter who they are.

Go to story number forty-nine. Pick your last character. Then, go to youtube, type in your favorite band's name, the first song to pop up is the name of your fic. When you're done, message me telling me the name, and I'll pick the best written fanfic from the challenge. (: Is there a reward? No, unless you want virtual cookies. The fic can be any length, but preferably, under 1000 words. Thanks ~

Severus Snape...was not meant for Lily Evans. It was a simple fact, everyone knew it.

And now he did too, as he sat next to the Black Lake, staring into it's dark depths, he knew the truth. Lily Evans could never be with him, she was free.

And Severus was a slave.

A slave to himself, a slave to the dark lord, and a slave to his brain, because it was bigger than his heart, now.

There was a hush over the lake, it was as quiet as it would ever be.

So Severus was quiet. Quiet and alone, the killing combination, now in the hush of his night, he had nothing to do but think about his mistakes.

He had made too many mistakes to count, but one stood out to him...he had lost Lily.

His little perfect lily would never come back now. How could he have said it? Mudblood.

Lily was not a mudblood, she was too pure, too beautiful to be made of mud. If anyone was a mudblood, it was him. He was dirty, terrible, envious...he was the mudblood.

She had kissed him once, it was early in the morning, right where he was sitting, next to the lake. It wasn't a perverted make out session, it wasn't one of the lust-filled kisses Lily gives to James.

It was beautiful. Just a kiss, but not of the lips, of the soul. He would never forget.

So, Severus planted a lily on that spot, just one tiny seed, but he never would see what became of it, because lilies don't grow in the hush of the night.

A/N It was meant to be short, sorry if it was confusing :/ I'm not sure about it so please review. (:
