My Baby Sister

July 21, 1991

Dear Diary,

That boy came in rambling and babbling about dementors and the like; scaring poor Dudley to death. Vernon wanted to leave the boy, but I just couldn't let him. Not because of Dumblee or something. It was because I couldn't lose the last remaining tie to my precious sister.

Lily was a gem. Everyone thought so; she as innocent, always. She had those large emerald green eyes that entranced everyone and long wavy auburn hair that separated her from the crowd.

We were the best of sisters. My friends would always wish that Lily were their sister instead of their own little munchkin brats.

That was until she got that letter. Mummy and Dad knew a friend who had gone to school and asked her to come over. They had been overjoyed.

Lily couldn't wait to go, and I was a fool to be happy for her. She had promised to write. And she did. Her first letter told me that she was the first one in her class to get a charm right, and she was so proud. I was beginning to feel like a horrible sister, just because I couldn't be there to show her I was proud of her.

And slowly, I began to resent that school and everything connected to it because they had caused the black hole between Lily and I. When she was eighteen and told us that she had gotten engaged to James Potter, I was beyond livid.

I was mad that he was taking my baby sister away from me.

A couple days later, I found mum and dad dead. I knew it had something to do with her world. She invited me to the wedding. I told her 'no.'

One year later, I found out from an old friend, whose sister was a good friend of Lily's that she was pregnant. Another year, and she contacted me to meet her and I did.

She told that this Voldemort or whatever was after her and her husband and of course, their son. Lily told me she would soon be going into hiding.

She proceeded to apologize. Say sorry for all those things that had happened between us. I told her that she could go to hell and I wouldn't give a care in the world. Not one bit.

A few weeks later, I found her son on my doorstep, when I went to fetch the paper.

The letter that came with him contained the news that she had died protecting her son. And her husband had died protecting her and the boy.

I'm so sorry, Lily. I'm sorry for the things I said. For the things I did.

If I could go back in time and do it all over again, I would. But not like that. Differently.

I tried to raise him by the morals that defined you so perfectly, but Vernon refuses to acknowledge him.

You truly are a precious gem that everyone claimed you to be. Please forgive me.
