I know, Andromeda...I know," Dylan sighed heavily. They had spent the past
six days looking for Beka and Tyr, but even he had to agree with Andromeda
at this point. "I know that you're right about the odds...I do, I just...I
don't want to..." He put his face in his hands and rubbed his eyes, "I
guess we should go catch up to the fleet."
Straightening up, he said, "Andromeda, shipwide."
"Aye, Dylan."
The attention signal sounded, and Dylan took a deep breath. "In a few minutes, we will be slipstreaming to Cinti to meet the rest of the Commonwealth fleet. Prepare for slipping."
Andromeda looked at her captain from her screen, knowing what this decision was doing to him. "Dylan, we can meet the fleet, ratify the charter, send them back to their homeworlds, and then be back in a matter of days."
Dylan looked up at her, "I know, Andromeda."
At that point, Harper came rolling out of one of the access tunnels and onto Command. He popped up to his feet and approached Dylan.
"So, we're just...what?...leaving?"
Dylan nodded and said, "We're going..."
That was all he got out before Harper attacked him. He threw himself into Dylan, knocking the larger man off balance, and pushed him to the floor, sitting on top of him. With his blaster in one hand, and Dylan's lance in the other, he readied them both.
"We are NOT going!" He snarled, "Didn't we just have this little talk about three weeks ago?"
Dylan, annoyed, said "Harper, get off me!"
Harper put the tip of the lance to his captain's throat and said, very forcefully,
"So, Mr. Hunt, just how long do you think we should continue looking for Tyr and Beka?"
Dylan's eyes widened as he recognized his own words lashed back at him. He dropped his head back to the floor and said, "Until we find them."
Harper jumped up, threw the lance down on Dylan's chest, holstered his blaster, and stood with his chest heaving. He glared down at Dylan. "Good answer. Very good answer...cos, you know Dylan..." he turned away and ran his hand over his eyes, "Beka is all the family I have." With that, Harper ran and jumped into another access tunnel and was gone.
