It was the first day back from Hogwarts for Tracey, and her sister Isla, and there were things. To. Do.
Like set up Christmas Lights.
"Are you kidding?" Isla groaned. They stood with the rest of their family in a large hall, surrounded by boxes. "There's another five of you not at school, you could have done it."
"No," their mother said. "This is a family thing. Everyone has to help do it."
"And we've only just come home, too, you know," Emyr pointed out.
"Yeah, after school comes more school," Neirin said.
"Or work."
"Or nothing."
"Yes, think of Briallen."
"Hey!" Briallen jumped up.
"Ease up, everyone."
Seren appeared in the doorway, and nearly everyone ran at him for a hug. Seren worked in Germany at a top secret research base for potion making, and that was all his family knew. He didn't get to come home often, not even for last Christmas. Something about almost melting down Munich with some aggressive concoction his team mate came up with.
"Alright," Briallen said from back where she'd remained standing. She was never a hugger, or one for showing any emotion at all. "Are we going to get started?"
As usual, Briallen put herself in charge. Their parents let her get away with it because she is a good leader, if not ruthless, but Seren would always step in when she started getting too bossy and demanding.
Tracey, Isla and Dante, the three youngest, were all on untangling duty.
"No magic," Briallen reminded them, with a sardonic kind of grin.
As soon as she'd gone outside to supervise where everything was going, and everyone else would start levitating lights up via her precise instructions, Dante pulled his wand out un had all the lights hanging untangled from the ceiling in a couple of minutes.
"That's cheating!" Briallen shouted when she discovered what he'd done.
"Oh, leave them be," Emyr scoffed. "C'mon, Trace, check out the garden gnome we caught, Neirin tied about three metres of lighting around him and the little guys just shouting furiously as he tries to tear it all off."
