Now on with the story.

Lily Evans walked from her Potions class to the Gryffindor common room. N.E.W.T. was harder than she thought it would be, and the seventh-year was wondering whether she'll go cuckoo today or next week.

Just as she thought her day couldn't get any worse, James Potter ran over to her and screeches, 'LILY-FLOWER!'

Lily took in a breath. She turned around and glared at Potter. 'What?'

'Will you go out with me?'

Lily clenched her fists, but then remembered what her bestie Marlene McKinnon told her: 'Look, Lily, if you don't want to date James, tell him you'd go out with him when pigs fly. Because pigs don't fly.'

'I'll go out with you when pigs fly,' Lily replied proudly. James just grinned and practically skipped back to his best mate Sirius Black. Marlene chose that moment to climb through the portrait hole. She kissed Sirius quickly on the cheek (he looked reluctant to let her hand go) and came over to Lily.

'Lily, you have to see this!' Marlene exclaimed, dragging Lily to the window. Lily gasped. There, one – two – five – eight – twenty-three – forty-six – ninety-eight – more than a hundred pink pigs flying in the sky with wings.

'Oh no,' she muttered, her eyes wide. She looked behind her. James was proudly grinning. Sirius smirked at pulled Marlene onto his lap.

'So, Evans?' Sirius asked innocently, though his face was betraying his voice.

Lily swallowed.

'It's – I –'

'You did say 'when pigs fly',' Marlene pointed out.

'But –'

'And there they are, flying!' Marlene continued, ignoring the red-head.

'So, will you go out with me?' James asked Lily. She swallowed her dignity and pride and flipped around. Lily kissed James, full on the mouth, while Sirius and Marlene stared, open-mouthed.

'Yes.'
