Wrath of the Phoenix

"Watch them, Fawkes, but don't get angry at them them."

My master and friend told me that. Somehow he always comes up with the hardest tasks.

Here I am, lord of all magical creatures, sitting here and being forced to watch over these squabbling chicks. I swear, Mandrakes make less racket then them.

The convict, Sirius Black, tried to break in today. (I am glad no one was hurt.) The racket the two-leg-wizards made was loud enough to wake the dead after the attack. I told friend-Albus I would look for the convict, but Albus was more concerned about the fierce-squabbling-chicks. He said, "Watch them for me, friend." And I obliged. I thought, How hard can it be to watch a bunch of sleeping chicks?

Very hard, apparently. Of course, it would be easier if the were sleeping. The teachers must be deaf if they can't hear the chattering of the loud-restless-chicks below me.

Don't get angry...

...Yeah. Methinks that even the most eccentric teacher would be hard-put to not get angry.

Or be driven slightly mad.

I squawked at the annoying-chattering-chicks below me. Surely they would listen...

They didn't.

I briefly thought about flying off and looking for the convict, but that would mean disobeying Albus. I generally obeyed him. If I couldn't trust my friend, who could I trust?

After all, we both saved each others' life.

So escaping was out of the question.

I remember when I met Albus. He rescued my from a cold, lonely store in Diagon Alley and nursed me back to health. I gradually grew to respect him and finally saved his life. It was that day I decided to forgo the life of a wild phoenix and join the world of wizards for a bit.

I wonder if I would have been so quick to do so if I had known babysitting (such as it is) was in the job description...

....Probably.

Not that I'm thrilled about this.

Don't get angry...

Easier said than done. Those chicks have only two modes: high energetic mode and sleep mode. Some of the are sleeping (finally!), but most are still awake.

Including the chicks by me.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against the chicks. The can be kind friends and some do respect me. It's their talkativeness I can't stand.

The one thing I do notice about wizards is their incessant talking. They use many words to say what could be said in a few words. Few actually don't chatter as if the nature of their kind.

Personally, I think they enjoy the sound of their own voices.

I glared at the talking chicks again.

Don't get angry...

But surely, turning them into badgers isn't getting angry...
