commentary ~ Oh, dear. Sorry for being dead for, like, months. I am working on stuff, just...slowly... DX Forgive meeee~! AND, to top it off, I have exams this week so I'll be dead...-er. But if I happen to finish early, I'll write. Promise! I'm working on a ... lemon, to be painfully honest... /sob I BLAME ANDREA! DX
/ahem Anyway... I wrote this during class one day (I can't remember which O-o), and finished it up tonight. It's not that good, and it's angsty. Mmmm, angst. It's good for the soul...
His world was black.
In the literal blink of an eye, he couldn't see anything or anyone he loved ever again.
He could no longer protect them - his ambitions shattered, the ambitions of protecting them.
No: he was virtually helpless without vision.
He could rely on hearing, on smell, taste, touch; but none of those would fill the gap that he was left with.
He never would see his beloved Lieutenant's pecan-tinted, glassy orbs half-glare at him for napping in the office. Never, her annoyingly adorable dog, never the rest of his trustworthy yet troublesome team.
Most of all... he could never again peer into the abyss of liquid gold that he had so grown to admire.
"Colonel." The strained voice matching the golden eyes said to him.
'Don't call me that...'
"Mustang?" the voice prodded, obviously troubled. "You..."
'Don't say it...'
"You're... blind?" the young man asked, more shock lacing his every syllable and breath.
The commanding officer gave a remorseful nod, remembering the grim situation involving human transmutation.
"Yes."
He heard a crash, most likely the bedside table, he thought, in the drafty hospital room. A shatter; a shaking series of breaths.
"Fullmetal... Are you--" Roy was cut off by the sound of boots stepping in this direction. One soft hand gripped his left shoulder; a hard, dense one gripping the right.
"You bastard... why did you... why do these things always happen to the people I care about the most?!" he just about yelled, breath pushing past his lips onto Roy's face, tickling the sensitive neurons.
Wait... "Edward, what..."
It was true that two of the most important people in his life had met... unfortunate situations, to say the least. Ed's beloved mother died in his very presence; his younger brother's body torn from his very existence and lost. Not to mention he never had a father to depend on when he needed it, so he and Alphonse had to depend on each other most of their lives.
Roy then felt the warm flesh hand move down the shoulder, the arm; down to his own palm. Calloused fingers entwined his with a faint uncertainty overshadowed by a comfortable, loving feeling.
If Roy could see, he'd witness the infamous Fullmetal Alchemist inches from his naturally pale face, unshed, grieving tears stinging the edges of his eyelids.
Ed then gasped, surprised as he felt the response of Roy's hand, his own being squeezed by the larger one. He looked up into blank, dark and empty eyes, and the warm curve of Roy's mouth below them.
For a moment, Ed wondered if he saw a quick flash of colourful, subtle happiness in the dual blank canvases.
He decided to believe it as Roy's warm arms enveloped his petite frame...
...holding as to ensure Ed would never disappear from his life.
Closing ~ FAIL, I TELL YOU.
I'm lazy. It's a disease.
I'll make the nest one better. T___T"

Hope you enjoyed the read, at least a little bit. c:
