no one noticed the tear tracks streaming down her face
She could hear the thumping bass line of the party outside, ringing in her ears.
She could smell the sweat of hundreds of grinding dancers.
She could feel the tears making trails down the face that took so long to perfect.
What went wrong?
"Hello everybody, and welcome to the party of the year," Her friend screamed into the microphone into the sea of pulsing bodies. "Be blessed that you, the elite, have been allowed to grace my backyard. But first, an announcement."
Confusion draws lines across her beautiful face, wondering what this announcement could be. Her brain works overtime, trying to think what stunt her glamorous friend had thought of this time.
"I am sure you all know my best friend here, the beta to my alpha, " Anxiety breaks out, and she wrings her hands, anticipating what will come next out of her friend's glossed mouth.
Oh no.
She knows.
"She may seem like the perfect angel, but not anymore. My so-called best friend cheated."
Her friend lets a fake tear slip from her made-up eye.
Gasps leave people's mouths in awe. Friends turn and start gossiping.
She puts her hand to her mouth, fearing what will happen next.
As usual, she has the best of luck.
Her friend pulls out her cell phone and brandishes it like a sword to the crowd.
"Yes, and I have the proof to prove it!"
A picture.
Two people locked at the lips, pressed against a brick wall and making out like no tomorrow.
One picture that ruined everything.
Wiping the tears from her cheeks, she smoothes her expensive, borrowed dress and stands up. She tries to talk to someone, anyone, but everyone ignores the girl who isn't the angel they thought she was.
Claire Lyons is just a piece of wasted space.
