Drip… drip … drip …
The rain fell on the roofs of Haven City. It fell on the dirty shabby roofs of the slum houses, with many droplets leaking through the roof. It fell on the factories in the industrial section, rolling into the smokestacks. The droplets struck the water in the port, making little ripples in the pollution. The yakows stared up at the clouds while they ate.

The next day, the people went to work as usual. They worked in the dirty factories and in the port. One man slipped and fell. The guard, his red armor glistening in the light, shoved the man up brutally. Then the guard walked away to shout at someone else. The people gave the guard a wide berth, like what they gave to all of the other guards that swarmed the city.

Some workers put of several propaganda stations. They screamed orders and false lies to the people, trying to change their very thoughts. Breaking them was considered an affront to the Baron, so the man whose zoomer crashed into one accidentally was thrown in jail for several years. When in jail, he was given no trial, no rights. His family was not even informed.

A group of large furry beings sat in the bazaar with their brother, who was named Brutter. Brutter had told them not to come to the city, but they had insisted that as long as they were his brothers they would not be captured. They were wrong, and the guards hauled them off to slavery. Brutter's protests fell on deaf ears as he cried for his family.

Brutter sadly walked in though the alleys of the slums, looking at the people there. They feared him, for the propaganda stations had declared all Lurkers to be animals. When he looked at the very poor, he realized his brothers were not the worst off. They still got fed and had a place to sleep. These poor people got nothing.
From high above all of this, a little girl stared down.
Her name was Ashelin, and she was the daughter of the man who had caused all of this. She stared down from a huge palace that she thought was ridiculous. She stared down, and imagined a better place.
My first fic, hope you like it! I would really like people to comment on stuff that can be improved. All constructive criticism is wanted, even if it is primarily negative.
