You Get What Everyone Else Gets
Its sucked. In the winter I couldn't ride my bike because a layer of ice and snow covered everything. Everyone and everything was colder than usual. But today I found myself lugging myself down to the big hill in my neighborhood to go sledding. Alone. But to my disadvantage, four boys were already at the hill throwing snowballs at each other. I sat under a tree away from the boys and waited for them to clear out. I took my thermos of hot chocolate out of my bag. Suddenly behind me a boy with ice crystals in his eyelashes and black hair popped up behind me. He was quite short and had brown eyes. "Can I have some?" He asked with a hyper grin. I hesitated. Then a boy with big brown curly hair came up and said "leave her alone Frankie." To which he replied "shut up princess fro-fro." Then a little blond boy with glasses and a boy with slightly longer black hair came over. "How's it going?" The boy with the longer black hair said. "I'm Gerard" Princess Fro-Fro added "I'm Ray" he was quite polite and quiet. Something I could kind of deal with. The blond boy seemed to be shy. He added "uh.. I'm Mikey.. I'm Gees brother." I faked a smile when the hyper boy jumped up and said "I'm Frankie!" I rolled my eyes and said "I was just leaving.. but I'm Cristine
. Nice to meet you all." Before I could go, Frank said "but.. you brought a sled.. we could share it.. and have a snowball fight.. and stuff!" All of the boys chimed in, so I decided to say for a few minutes. My ten year old self couldn't bear it. I soon found out that Ray and Gerard were 11 and Frank and Mikey were 10. I stayed a little longer then I expected. I even opened up a little bit to Frank. He asked why I was so quiet. So I told him "all of you are so much better than me.. you all have so much more.." he cut me off with words that would stick with me forever. "You get what everyone else gets.. you get a life time." Hours later. I went home cold and wet. I told my mom that I'd be going out the same time tomorrow for a snowball fight with the boys. I walked home taking off my wet gloves. I finally had someone I could call a friend.
