Chapter 2

Kurt and Rachel arrive at the auditorium and are immediately surrounded by the entire McKinley High Glee Club. They are all in their red caps and gowns. Kurt had been blabbing on and on during the car ride about how the cap would ruin his hair and that he didn't see the reason for picking out a perfectly good outfit if it's just going to be covered up by "a sweaty glob of polyester."

But once he saw his friends wearing theirs, he realized that it's just for a few hours and besides, you only graduate high school once.

Everyone was starting to take pictures before the commencement ceremony began so Kurt quickly began to put his gown on. Just as he was his dad, Burt, came over from the parking lot with Finn and his mom Carole. Rachel flew past Kurt, nearly knocking him over, and into Finn's arms as Carole began taking pictures as if this were a photo shoot rather than a graduation. Kurt smirked at the sight of them kissing each other and holding hands just as Burt placed a hand on his son's shoulder. Kurt immediately looked up at his dad and mentally prepared himself for what was most likely to come: the pre-graduation speech. He hoped Burt would choose to keep it short, briefly remembering the night he had sat him down to have "the talk."

But instead, to Kurt's surprise, Burt wrapped him in a long, tight hug. "Dad," Kurt choked out in a muffled voice since his mouth was wedged in the space between his father's chest and armpit, "you're going to ruin the pleating on my gown if you keep squishing me like this." Burt pulled away and now placed both hands on Kurt's shoulders so he could look his son in the face.

"I can honestly say I am the happiest and proudest father in the world because I have you as my son." Kurt looked up into his father's eyes. It wasn't hard to see the sincerity and love especially since his eyes were filling up with small tears. Kurt had to admit he was getting emotional too as he said, "I love you, Dad." Burt, as if suddenly remembering his manliness, quickly wiped his tears away and cleared his throat.

"Alright, let's zip you up." Just as Burt was fixing Kurt's collar, Kurt felt someone come up behind him and suddenly two hands were covering his eyes. "Ack! Who is that!" Kurt heard his dad sigh and chuckle. "Three guesses who."

Kurt gently removed the hands from his eyes as he turned around and saw (you guessed it) Blaine Anderson, his bubbly Warbler boyfriend who had refused to travel with him to the auditorium in order to, as he had put it, "See the magic after the making."

"You look amazing," Blaine told Kurt softly as he looked him over.

"Well, I try. It's not easy to look stylish in a non-form fitting gown." Blaine's eyes sparkled as he smirked and leaned to whisper in Kurt's ear, "You make it look very easy." He kept his eyes on Kurt's as he did this and when he pulled back and saw Kurt's face beginning to flush, his smirk threatened to turn into a goofy grin.

Blaine looked over Kurt's shoulder and Kurt knew by the change in Blaine's expression that all of the graduates were lining up. "I guess I should go," Kurt whispered to Blaine softly, not wanting to let go of his warm, safe hands. Blaine detected the hint of fear in Kurt's voice knowing all too well that Kurt has a solo after Principal Figgin's speech.

Blaine nodded his head in agreement, but as Kurt began to turn away he grabbed his arm causing Kurt to rush into Blaine's arms as if they had planned this from the beginning. Blaine kissed Kurt's forehead and inhaled slowly, savoring the moment. Then, he gently pressed their foreheads together, gazing longingly into each other's eyes. "Make your Warbler brothers proud," Blaine whispered, his breath tickling and soothing Kurt's face in a sudden rush. Kurt grinned, kissed Blaine on the tip of his nose and skipped off happily to join the Glee Club.
