Who else was totally blown away by the preview of the finale? I know I was! So I wrote this! I used part of Relient K's My Girl's Ex-Boyfriend, which inspired this little drabble. Enjoy!

As much as she wanted to, Mary Shannon couldn't hate Abigail Chaffee.
Of course she resented the woman. She resented that Abigail had everything that she wanted: a stable life, a great job, and an amazing man who adored her. It didn't help that that man was Mary's best friend, Marshall Mann. She teased him about the younger woman, but really she was jealous. She would never admit it, because she wanted Marshall to be happy, and Abigail gave him a stability that Mary couldn't even hope to compete with.
They truly seemed to be happy, and as long as Marshall was happy, Mary would deal with the irritating cheerleader.
So it came as a complete and total shock when Marshall showed up at her door one night and tearfully told her that Abigail had dumped him. She'd had no idea what to do when he stepped forward and hugged her, so she wrapped her arms around him and held him tight.
The next morning arrived to find them tangled together in her bed, and from that point on, they were inseparable.
"Mare!"
Mary looked up from the book she was reading. "What, Marshall?"
He came into the living room and dropped down onto the couch beside her, stealing a quick kiss. "Someone wanted to say good night."
Mary laughed and looked at Norah, who was dressed in pink pajamas. "Good night, Bug." She kissed their daughter.
Norah giggled. "Night, Mommy!"
A few feet away, a cry sounded, and Mary shut her book. "So much for reading."
"I'll get him…"
"No, I got him. Put Bug to bed." She kissed Marshall again, then got up and made her way to their son's playpen. Sam was whimpering and flailing his little arms. "Hey, little man…" She leaned over and reached down, gathering her baby boy into her arms.
As soon as he was settled against his mother's chest, Sam settled down and let out a happy sound.
Mary laughed. "Stinker. You just wanted attention." She went back to the couch and sat down again. Like his sister, Sam had been a surprise. But this time, there had been no question about whether or not she would keep him. Marshall had been over the moon when she told him that she was pregnant. He loved Norah, and there was no doubt that he would love this baby, too.
She glanced at her wedding ring fondly, then ran her thumb over her son's cheek. She had never been so happy in her entire life, and she owed so much of it to Abigail. She'd had a great man, but she had let him go, and Mary was able to claim him as her own, something she'd wanted to do for years but never had the courage to.
Now she had him and their little family, and she had Abigail Chaffee to thank for that.
She's the girl that you should feel sorry for
She had the world, but she thought that she wanted more
I owe it all to the mistake she made back then
I owe it all to my boy's ex-girlfriend
The End!
