Chapter One-Welcome to Sangsue De Cirque

"Mmmm whatcha say,
Mmm that you only meant well?
Well of course you did
Mmmm whatcha say,
Mmm that it's all for the best?
Of course it is"

The music started. I cart wheeled onto the stage. I started my triple bounce jump on the trampoline. The crowd was cheering as I continued my routine. The clowns came out and lit the net under me on fire. I felt fear and the adrenaline rush through my veins, even if I was vampire.

Yeah, I'm a vampire. I don't remember how, or why. I only know that I'm a vampire, and that I'm supposed to look for someone.

Victoria was her name; she erased my memory of someone and told me to look for him.

Confusing? I know. How do I look for someone I don't know?

I continued as the show went on, I was part of a famous circus, "Sangsue De Cirque" meaning "leech circus" in French.

Leech? Yes, we are all vampires, that's why the fire is even more frightening. Usually all the humans that come to this show don't come back, it's famous for the most homicides that happen after the show. That's because all the vampires that come to the show don't leave without a dinner.

So now, after twenty years, people know better than to come to our shows, they just watch it on television for 3.99 a show!

Just kidding! You can only see this live action… live of course! We usually only perform in big cities, Los Angeles, New York, Milan, Paris, Cairo, etc…

Still haven't guessed who I am? Yeah, Bella. Isabella Swan. Still looking for some guy. A decent picture wouldn't hurt!

The show ended and a round of applause rang through the Centre. The red eyes were all staring down at us. Vampires. Only rarely did we get a set of topaz eyes.

We went backstage to pack up and leave on our caravan. Victoria, the ring leader, came out and held me by my collar.

"Where to, Bella?" She said in a rather high and uncomfortable pitch.

"Th-the caravan?" I said uncertainly.

"No. You will go look for him now." She said.

I pushed her off of me and looked her in the eye, "I'm done Victoria, I refuse to look for someone I do not know." I said.

Her blood red eyes focused on me and she started using her power. It was said to be horrible, a mind trick. She would focus on me until it literately hurt the inside of me, my brain to say.

But what she didn't know is that it didn't work on me. Mind tricks like that never worked on me for some reason. Kat told me never to tell anyone, especially Victoria, about this. It would be best to pretend to be in mental pain, than to have Victoria inflict physical pain.

Kat is my closest friend. We've been through a lot together. We just sort of ignored the others, who were all helplessly brainwashed. At least Kat and I could actually feel and have somewhat of a soul. The others were just part of Victoria's army disguise.

Why were me and Kat the only real vampires? We still don't really know.

I kept wincing, as if Victoria was causing me great pain. Finally she let go and walked away. I exhaled and she swiftly turned around.

"Don't think I'm not watching you." She said coldly, "I'll be on you like a fly!" She screamed.

I went to continue packing my things. I set off to the caravan and hoped for the best.

I'd heard stories. Of the better days.

I've heard stories about vampires, all happy, all a family.

It wasn't like that here. Not now.
