Nighttime
AN: This was a response to challenge #166 of LJ community, 30minutefics (So you think you know Dumbledore). This was also inspired by a conversation my friends and I had about Dumbledore and why he looks so dazed in the movies. Hope you enjoy!
Dumbledore sighed. Usually around two o'clock, everything slows down and he realizes that there's nothing to do. Yes, the great Dumbledore was bored. Of course he could read, he does that a lot. The reason why he had so many books was because he had nothing better to do. He tried starting up late night chess matches, but no one showed up. Perhaps this was because it at 3 in the morning, however, Dumbledore liked to think it's because they were not skilled enough in the game of chess. Dumbledore sighed again.
There was a soft knock at his office door. Dumbledore's head jerked up. Finally some excitement. "Come in," he said to the person behind the door. Slowly, Harry Potter walked in. Harry knew it was late, but he just had a realistic dream about Lord Voldemort growing stronger and wanted to tell Dumbledore before he forgot it.
"Harry! What a surprise! Come in. Pull up a chair! Have a lemon drop! Tell me what's the matter!" Dumbledore couldn't help but contain his joy. He finally has someone to talk to and it was Harry. Knowing Harry, he will have to have a very long explanation of whatever he came here for. Dumbledore knew this would waste time and prolong his boredom.
Harry walked over to a worn out leather chair and sat in it. He starred at Dumbledore weirdly, however, Dumbledore was unaware of Harry's stare, he was eating a lemon drop.
Dumbledore was way too alert to be awake at two in the morning. In fact, when Harry comes to Dumbledore's office at night, no matter what time, Dumbledore is always awake. This was started to look suspicious. Harry couldn't stand it any longer and asked the question that was burning inside of him, "Professor, I had another dream about Voldemort. But I have something more important to ask. Professor Dumbledore, why are you always awake whenever I come at night?"
Dumbledore turned away from Harry. He never admitted this to anyone before in his life, for he thought it was too embarrassing. "Harry…I'm an insomniac. I don't sleep. I have never slept."
"Oh." Was all that Harry could manage out of his mouth. Harry didn't quite expect this, actually he didn't know what he was expecting.
Dumbledore turned to Harry, not quite sure what to do. For a few minutes, they starred at each other. Finally, Dumbledore cleared his throat, "Now let's hear about this dream of yours."
