Two of my favourite characters of all times, though I really resent them for making decisions I don't agree with. I guess that's the fun about characters, right? They are just like people. I decided to put them together because of the challenge I was participating (Hurt-Comfort Bingo). The prompt was Sensory Deprivation, an who better than them to represent that?

The Arya here is the Arya from A Feast of Crows/A Dance with Dragons. Katniss is the one from The Hunger Games.

The Mockingjay and the Direwolf

Katniss Everdeen was dreaming, and she was very aware of it. And so was Arya Stark.

"Who is there?" Arya asked, feeling the awkwardness of dreaming without seeing. She knew she had been blinded to pay for her crime, but she never had a blind dream before. How was she supposed to tell the difference from reality and imagination when not even in her dreams she could see?

"I'm sorry, can you speak a little louder? I can't hear you very well."

Arya approached the owner of the feminine voice that had just spoken to her.

"Are you deaf?"

"Partially." Katniss answered. "One of my ears lost its ability during an explosion on the arena."

"Arena? Is there where we are now?"

"Oh, you're blind. No. We're on a frozen wood I can't recognize. I'm dreaming."

"We both are."

"You mean... You're real?"

"Yes. I'm Arya, of the House Stark of Winterfell."

Katniss just stared at the little girl. Those names meant nothing to her.

"I'm Katniss Everdeen, the female tribute of District 12."

Noting how those words meant absolutely nothing to her, Arya noticed hers probably didn't mean anything for Katniss as well.

"Do you know how did we get on each other's dream?" Arya asked.

"I have no idea. On my world, I'm fighting for my life, to return home."

"I'm too. I'm training to get stronger, to avenge my family's death."

"But... Would you be able to do it? I mean, don't you need your sight?"

"No, I don't need my sight. It was purposefully taken away for me, but I'm sure I can train enough not to depend on it."

Katniss admired Arya's fighting spirit. The girl couldn't be much older then Prim, but she was already a mighty survivor. She had lost the hearing of one ear and felt completely unbalanced not being able to hear with perfection the unique sounds of the wild life, but that girl lost her vision and still wasn't willing to give up.

"I don't think I can fight properly without my hearing." She shamefully admitted. "I'm all wrong. I can't really determine if the sound was close or far away, and sometimes I miss very important noises."

Arya smiled just a little bit.

"You'll adapt in time. If you get properly used to the situation, soon you'll notice you don't need to rely only on your ears. Try to give more credit to your nose, and even to your sight. Sharp the other senses, and soon your half hearing won't bother you no longer."

"That's a very wise advice, for a girl of twelve."

"Where I live, adulthood starts at thirteen."

Katniss was shocked.

"You mean... I girl like you can marry at thirteen?"

"Yes. Actually, we are practically obliged to marry with thirteen."

"That's horrible."

"Your world is too different?"

"Yes. We're adults at eighteen, but we can only marry after twenty."

"I wish I could live in your world." Arya said.

"No, believe me, you don't. It's quite horrible."

"My world is horrible too."

Suddenly, they both started to feel the oniric feeling leaving them.

"Guess it's time to wake up." Arya stated.

"Yes." Katniss answer only because Arya wouldn't be able to see her nod. "You know, we have the same eye colour. Grey."

Arya smiled.

"That's nice to know. It was nice meeting you, Katniss Everdeen."

"Likewise, Arya Stark."

Next thing they knew, they were opening their eyes to their horrid realities.
