'Why?' The thought floated through her mind. All logical reasoning vanished. Her brows crinkled as anger, confusion, and pain washed over her senses. Tears welled up threatening to fall, 'Stop it, you can't cry. Not now, because if I do…' Her heart was bursting at the seams with the pain. She held on tighter to her most precious person. Velvet torrents ran through her fingers and pooling beneath them. The warm, thick substance was their own enemy.

"Why?!" Forgoing her state of usual calmness and ever-famous gracefulness, she clutched desperately to her precious person afraid to let go, fearing if she did, that person would vanish for sure. "Why would you do this?" A few silver beads coursed down her cheeks leaving behind its trail of wetness. She cursed herself for not having better control.

Raspy coughing interrupted her thoughts. No words, but a weak smile was her only response. The skin surrounding her knuckles strained against the bone as she felt a few more tears descend. She placed more pressure upon the hole that was rapidly flowing the very life force out from her precious person's dying body. The light was slowly fading into nothingness and the once steady heartbeat was growing faint.

"Please don't leave me." Her voice whispered and shook with heavy emotions. Deep sorrow fogged within the eyes of her loved one. Mirroring the same emotion, her other arm wrapped around the trembling body pulled the person tighter to her own. Time seemed all too real as each second soon became all the more vital. Every movement from her important person's chest dictated her very own existence.

The small body's movement was getting harder and harder to tell if it was still moving or not. "I told you to run. Why didn't you listen?" She angrily demanded. Their environment remained untouched by the scene they created. People surrounded them watching from a distance as she screamed out for someone to call an ambulance. No one moved. The body was becoming less and less responsive.

Unable to keep them inside, the tears fell. The light was almost gone. The faint heartbeat was coming to its end. A shuddering breath from her precious person finally released the answer pent up inside the dying body. The person tried to reach out for her but discovered that the arm would not move. The entire body was numb. The distant noise of a siren resounded in her ears.

She held her breath as movement from her precious person finally gave her the answer to her question before her loved one's body stopped all movement. Eyes widened as she no longer felt the once familiar warmth. Burying her face within the crook of her beloved's neck, she finally allowed her entire body to succumb to her grief. Loud, heart-ripping pain seared through her heart as she cried against the dead corpse. All the while, the last words her precious person echoed within her mind.

"Because I fell in love with you."

AN: All right, I just had this idea for the story while listening to Mai-Hime's soundtrack. "Because I fell in love with you" was the inspiration. The soundtracks are beautiful, and I can't stop listening to them. The mood seemed to fit with this scene. I purposely left the fic to be the way it was simply because I love how it worked. Seriously, you should listen to the song, the piano just grabs you along with all the other songs from the soundtracks. Such raw emotions pouring out along with knowing the storyline those twelve girls had to go through. It just squeezes out the angst and drama while making your heart shred from the pain.
